From 01/01/22 full customs clearance becomes reality- that means up to 10,000 trucks a day in and out of Calais / folkestone being subject to full clearance. That means having to stop and collect customs papers and surrender docs upon entry. 1/2

Sevington inland border facility has the capacity for 475 trucks . If 10% of trucks have to stop on their way IN to clear customs the entire place would be inundated within hours . And that doesn’t include the outbound commercial traffic trying to collect their paperwork

Put it this way- if the U.K. used the green/ orange traffic light system for trucks on inbound freight from the EU-U.K. and only 10% of trucks get called in That’s TWICE the capacity of the largest inland border clearance facility closest to the point of entry from the EU

This is when trade could and may well grind to a halt . Remember all those years ago I mentioned a bottle neck of incoming freight and outgoing freight all meeting in one place ? This could well be it

It’s important to note that not all freight needs to stop to collect paperwork on outbound movements ,but with the inbound traffic subject to clearance upon entry to the U.K. in a matter of days the governments pathetic brexit infrastructure will not cope

Because we have deferred inbound clearance currently we don’t need to stop on the way in unless it’s freight from NO/CH or excise goods . Oh how that’s going to change .
