First, in November 2019, the Board of Directors at @OPPDCares voted to update policy SD-7, Environmental Stewardship from a goal of carbon intensity reduction, to net zero carbon emissions in all activities.
The largest 3 utilities (NPPD, OPPD, LES) serve a vast majority of customers in Nebraska. Additional customers receive electricity from MEAN, Tri-State, and municipal or cooperative generation resources. A few customers are not yet covered by zero carbon policy commitment.
In order to begin delivering on this outcome, @OPPDCares is moving forward on Power with Purpose to install utility scale solar, modernized gas, and to cease coal operations at the North Omaha facility.
Looking forward, @OPPDCares has been conducting a comprehensive study to identify Pathways to Decarbonization which will guide resource planning decisions in the future.
There will be a huge amount of work needed to deliver on these policy outcomes, creating #CleanEnergyJobs in communities across our state. I’m glad to help lead an organization which is dedicated to #ClimateAction#CleanEnergy#LocalPower 🌞🔌⚡️✊
