🧵 And now back to the program… Peggy Noonan and the unrelenting hit job that she & the GOP right wing are trying to put on VP @KamalaHarris . And before I hear the M. Obama quotes… had y’all properly checked this in the 80s I wouldn’t have to in ‘21.. so don’t want to 👂 it.

The right seems threatened by smart, strong-willed, free thinking women & POC. Don’t believe me- see Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, & now Kamala Harris. In their strategy to “mean girl”them out of existence- they target their looks, mannerisms, & personalities to “otherize” them.

And over the years Noonan has been the queen of Otherizing. With eloquent prose, timed hair flips, & dramatic deep-breath pauses, she has attempted to define the aforementioned (& Obama) as outside of the American mainstream, but to her Trump’s style made him appear “normal.”

She said Hillary lacked remorse of conscience, Obama needed to be more dignified & enunciate. And now, Reagan’s former speechwriter and the creator of Reagan’s “welfare queen” is trying to come for the first woman (and Black woman) to serve as VP of the United States. #NotToday

Reagan and Noonan’s depiction of poor African American women as welfare queens has been a stigma rooted in the American conscience & the stereotypes it promulgated made it even more difficult for families to break out of systemic poverty.

Noonan’s attacks on VP Harris are anchored in that same ‘ol bigoted & tired frame. Trying to define her as frivolous & unprepared. So what the hell did Pence do as VP? Trump didn’t even trust him to give him presidential authority while he had a colonoscopy- that’s insubstantial!

As a US Senator, we saw Kamala Harris in action- always focused, well-prepared, & as sharp as a tack. As VP, from voting rights to infant mortality, she is working on some of the most important issues of our time. She is bringing renewed vitality & focus to the office.

But what we are not going to do is allow these relics of a bygone past to derail or minimize the positive and historic impact of @KamalaHarris in her role as VP. Donald Trump didn’t read his security briefing books and sometimes skipped the briefings… but I guess that’s ok.

No one is asking for a different standard in terms of assessing this Vice President or the administration. But you sure as hell are not going to get away with unfairly minimizing or critiquing Biden/Harris when you turned a blind eye to the Lord of the Coup & the GOP 🤡 show!

So Peggy… Bless your heart! We know your game… but we don’t have time for it today!
