From a friend in the Freight Forwarding Industry who has authorised me to send this message as he has now just resigned !!!
Hi Michael. I don't know want this public for the moment. Let me think about it. What I have seen going in the EU has been a total car crash
60 80% sales down for many food exporters loads of freight companies just not getting involved.
I know a few companies setting up in Dublin particularly Asian foods rice etc and using it as a base.
I have also heard from good sources that food exporters are entering the EU via Belfast and dodging many checks.
I think the government will have to avoid SPS checks in GB long beyond July.
I can honestly say that importers are not 100% sure of the changes
and just leaving it to the fwding/customs agents to sort it out.
Freight charges to clients next year are going up in general by 15 to 35% for European road freight.
These are rates all being banded around by many of the big boys.
The thing I have definitely seen is that rates from hauliers can flip in days.
So we booked a trailer and they sold it to us for €2750 to the UK. The day of the collection due to happen the haulier had no traction
.. in the end they could do it a week later for €3850
It’s like the Wild West
There is still a woeful inadequate level of training.
I feel sorry for so many youngsters they are being failed by the industry. If you are under 50 it’s unlikely that you experienced life out side the SM
Likewise customs officers poorly trained too.
In Europe all I can say is that on a human side the UK is a pain in the arse for their import and export departments . I ve heard "your Brexit not ours" so many times it’s awful because you know something is sitting in customs & they are not going to push to get it sorted
they are going let it sit there are let it rack up demurrage or storage charges.
You and I know that customs officers are human and if they want to be an arsehole they will. Nothing to be done. So let’s say numb nuts in no 10 say something to create a bit of publicity at home
and is offensive to say France mark my words they are going to go looking for shit. They do.
I am a member of a band of very few people who have worked in logistics pre SM and post. I have seen businesses spring up all over the South East because the trade barriers were removed.
I am seeing them thinking on their feet now and just importing direct to the EU setting up fulfilment centres in NL FR DE and shipping from there. The south east was stripped of its industry from the mid 70s onwards and the EU helped build an exporting economy.
The north, unless it cuts its costs to mitigate the cost of administration of exporting will lose its client base and I fear for their future and the North South gap will widen because the money market albeit affected by Brexit will soften the loss of some businesses in South
I am truly trying to keep positive. And I truly believe that most remainers will make a good fist of Brexit but brexitiers are always looking at the past. They will shout how bad we are being treated and not look at the reality that Britain is now alone in the world of bullies
I do believe that we will re enter the SM & a CU within 10 years but we have to taste the reality of this mad decision first...
In the meantime the UK doesn't seem to give a shit ...
a self inflicted painful decade ahead.

.. anything being sent to the EU requires customs declarations forms to be attached. These are either CN22 or CN23 forms, depending on the value of the items. People sending from Northern Ireland do not need these forms. 🙄
People still don't get any of it

But everybody knew what they were voting for 🥴
From a friend "A lot of people both in UK & EU will be in shock over the ensuing parcel mess that will happen this Xmas. But did you note that they were "Sent to the place where one day she may retire"
Oh dear, I'm afraid that ship has sailed, another shock yet to come her way"

Did Priti Patel's & Sajid Javid's parents claim asylum in the 1st countries they travelled through or countries closest to their countries of origin?
Or did they migrate to UK as their preferred choice?
Either way they made applications that were accepted on criteria required
Why so wrong to give all the same rights as you, Patel & Javid, to apply
(where you are only an "illegal" migrant if you don't apply)?

I find it amazing that so many (MPs) still do not understand you need all three
(single market/customs union/CTA)
for a wholly open border.
Nor that they still can't discern the differences between the three.
1/ customs union allows free circulation of commercial value goods within member countries with common external tariffs/duties to non cu members.
(no customs declarations/RoO compliance proof/temp export carnets needed at borders between members)
"customs" basically TAX/DUTIES
2/ single market allows free movement of goods/services/finance/people under common legal oversight to work outside their country of tax residence within member countries
(no proof of compliance with standards/SPS needed at borders between members)
"market" basically STANDARDS

From a Freight Forwarding friend "For the last 10 days we have had a trailer stuck in Germany because the parts no longer comply. So far we have racked up €6500 charges. We now have to bring it back to the UK.
My company has now set up a stand alone customs broker for 1/1.
I strongly suspect that it could ultimately be that the hauliers will be liable. Let's face it we charge ridiculous fees for entries and rarely do the entry clerks have time or knowledge to check the document.
The trickle of clients relocating to the EU is becoming a torrent.
Last week I met a client who says they need to build a new factory they are looking at Czech. Not UK.
It's beyond me how we let these ffing idiots run the country.
I may have told you but I had a meeting with Digby Jones.

People still not understanding why TCA brexit when fully implemented GB side will cause greater supply chain break down/shortages,..
Let's just take the personnel issue.
Imagine a shipping/freight forwarding/parcel/courier office. ...1/
Pre Brexit: Ten people with long experience in customs & compliance formalities looking after the non EU traffic.
For the remaining half of the traffic for EU just two people were employed with absolutely no experience in customs & compliance formalities...as none was needed. 2/
Now the EU traffic needs the same "ten people with long experience"
Do you move some of your experienced staff to the EU freight diminishing your service on the non EU services where competitors are not, while still leaving the EU service short of what is needed? 3/

He added: “It was apparent they had absolutely no idea what CFSP was – so much for it being the ‘gold standard’ vehicle for customs declarations, offered only to ‘trusted’ importers.”
Frightening stuff theloadstar.com/uk-hmrc-strugg…
The bigger problem may be persuading (insufficient in number either way) brokers to become certified, as brokers processing EU imports as indirect clients are also left liable for any tax due, which the custom expert said would mean “few” would be willing to handle the backlog.
You're not fucking kidding !!!
“If we process a declaration, we earn £35, ($47), but it also makes us jointly liable for the tax due,” he explained. “To give an idea of what we’re talking about, we processed a declaration that had some £2,300 in duty owed.
