Dead cat, continued updates:

So the city cop came over and confirmed that yes, dead cat in front of my back door; I can't get out of the back door; health/safety hazard. (also, hi, vulture!)
(sorry, just realized I should have been doing a better job threading this, but not only is this upsetting, it's also unseasonably hot out and I am not thinking well.)

ANYWAY
City cop began trying to call people.

Turns out that Public Works (the city Public Works) will remove domestic animals and scan for chips (to make sure that they aren't cremating someone's pet by mistake). BUT
NOT ON SUNDAYS.

They could have come over YESTERDAY, had the county informed me that the contracted agency would not be able to come today.
So now, someone at Winter Garden is now trying to find someone at Public Works who has a) access to a pet chip scanner (it's not clear who does this), and b) can come out on Sunday to remove the dead cat.

We are not hopeful.

@OrangeCoFL
I have been told that Winter Garden Public Works MAY be able to come by today; if not, hopefully tomorrow, to remove the dead cat and scan for the chip.

This also means that I have to stay home and wait for them.

@OrangeCoFL
(It also means that vultures are starting to eat a cat that may very well have been poisoned.)
The Winter Garden city cop cannot put a dead animal in the back of the cop car. I don't drive.

Still.

This should not have been this difficult to deal with.

A couple of quick additions to my tweets from earlier today about #Discon #Worldcon and the Omni Shoreham hotel:

1. I fully understand that this particular Worldcon/Discon has faced unprecedented challenges.

Leading to my next point:
2. When #Discon #Worldcon was dealing with the challenges of Covid/the closure of the main con hotel, the con polled members to get a sense of what would be preferred:

Hi, new followers, and welcome!

I do rant about accessibility from time to time, but
I am much more likely to complain about genre TV or discuss one of my stories or go OMG THE ANTS HAVE INVADED THE DEADBOLT than discuss wheelchair issues.
Just so you're warned.
Also, as @LongTallJodie has correctly reminded me, the city's annual SANTA'S RIDE OF TERROR is swinging by tomorrow and there WILL BE RANTING because in my personal opinion Santa does not need this many fire trucks.

Hi everyone!

Turns out that Omni Shoreham hotel - the main #Discon #Worldcon hotel - while technically wheelchair accessible, is not wheelchair friendly.
I found this out yesterday on Twitter by accident, about an hour before the hotel cancellation fee kicked in, and reached out to Access and a couple of people at the hotel to confirm.

#Discon #Worldcon
I have confirmed with the people at the hotel and @MaryRobinette that the hotel WILL be difficult to navigate, and that the problems may even be worse than the hotel map would suggest.

Dead cat update:

When I returned home last night the dead cat was still on my front yard, gathering flies.

This morning my two indoor cats landed on me, very agitated.
I went out to the front yard and saw that the dead cat was no longer there.

Oh, I thought, someone must have come by earlier this morning, and turned my attention to other things.
About 15 minutes ago I opened the back door.

The dead cat - now covered in flies and definitely starting to decompose - had been left right in front of my back door.

I know I've told some of you about the three tabby cats who frequently spend time in my yard - the ones I call Hey You, Hey You and You're Not Hey You. They wander the neighborhood.
I just found one of them dead in the front yard.
I don't know if any of them actually belonged to a neighbor or not, or if they were just strays (they never approached, but seemed ok with humans.)

As someone who has been published by @neonhemlock , and is hoping to be published by them again, this obviously concerns me on a couple of levels, @Paypal.
The first, @Paypal, is on a disability/accessibility level.

I can't drive for medical reasons, which in turn makes it difficult for me to get to a bank. @NeonHemlock has very kindly paid me through @Paypal to make that much easier for me.
The second, of course, is the vagueness of this explanation.

What terms have been violated here? Does this just affect @neonhemlock , or does it affect people who work with them?

This is a problem.
