THREAD: Ron Johnson is saying he’ll announce soon whether he’s running. @WisDems is more than ready—we've campaigned all year. Help us hit our mid-December goal of $10K by 12/15. Chip in any amount to help us make sure Johnson's campaign launch falls flat:
secure.actblue.com/donate/johnson…
Reporters and insiders think the overwhelming likelihood is that Johnson WILL run for reelection—even though his closing argument in the 2016 election was that he’d never run again after that year. We’ll know for certain soon.
If you’ve been following @WisDems, you know we haven’t been waiting around for Johnson to make it official. We spent all of 2021 organizing & communicating statewide—and defining Ron Johnson. Our goal: sear Johnson’s egregious record into voters’ memories.
We wanted all Americans to understand one, clear message: that Johnson has spent his time in Washington focused on his self-serving agenda that has focused on enriching himself and his biggest donors while ignoring the needs of working people. This is how we’ve done that:
When Trump’s insurrection hit the Capitol, @WisDems jumped into action. Ron Johnson had enabled Trump at every turn and fanned the flames fueling the mob. We made sure voters knew about it—by airing the first TV ad of this election cycle in the country:
The ad ran in five Wisconsin media markets across the state, home to the vast majority of the state’s population, as well as online. We were calling on Johnson to resign. He didn’t, so now we’ll just have to end his time in office ourselves.
nytimes.com/2021/01/13/us/…
Johnson kept lying about 1/6. He said it “didn’t seem like an armed insurrection.” Wisconsinites had seen the video. They knew he was wrong. So we made sure they’d remember that he tried to bamboozle them about it:
When the life-changing American Rescue Plan passed—thanks to @POTUS and @TheDemocrats in Congress!—we immediately held Ron Johnson accountable for his obstruction attempt, kicking off a fundraising campaign for billboards:
As noxious as Johnson’s lies and obfuscations might be, they can pull attention away from the worst thing about his time in public office: his obsession with looting the treasury to enrich himself & his biggest donors. But a @ProPublica story nailed it.
propublica.org/article/secret…
After @ProPublica exposed how Johnson had rigged the tax system to enrich himself and his biggest donors, we didn’t sit around. We had to make sure Wisconsinites and every American knew that Ron Johnson robbed us.
We held a rally outside Johnson’s Madison office & sounded the alarm. Why did he do all he could to block middle-class tax cuts—when he himself paid almost no state income tax in 2017? Why did he push so hard for tax cuts for the rich?
One year out from the midterm elections, we had the most energizing organizing weekend of the year: #1Year2Win. More than 1000 volunteers, elected Dems, and @WisDems staffers knocked on doors & made phone calls, reaching out to >100,000 voters re '22.
Electing a strong Dem to the Senate next year from WI will change lives for Wisconsinites—and for all Americans. To do that, we need to continue building our multigenerational, multiracial statewide organizing program. That takes investment. Help us build:
secure.actblue.com/donate/johnson…
Meanwhile, throughout the year, we’ve organized virtual news conferences, blasted out press releases, and done everything else in our power to make sure voters learned just how bad for them it’s been to have Ron Johnson in the Senate.
All of our work has landed Ron Johnson in a precarious position. With a Democratic President in the White House, and Democrats in charge of Congress, the electoral environment should be very positive for Johnson heading into 2022.
However, that’s not the case for @TheWorstSenator. He’s a national laughing stock, an embarrassment to the state of Wisconsin, and a danger to our democracy and economy. @WisDems are talking to voters about Johnson’s record every single day.
Usually, the party *not* in power wins big the year after a Presidential election. We are working to defy history by defining Ron Johnson early and aggressively.
We know we can continue to drive up Johnson’s negatives. In Wisconsin, elections come down to the wire, and we can't take any chances with democracy on the line. That’s why we’re not waiting around to work. We can’t afford to wait.
No matter when Johnson decides to make his big announcement, we’ll be ready. We’ve been training for this moment all year long—as a party, as Democrats & activists—with the support that built our organizing juggernaut. Chip in now to elevate it in ’22: secure.actblue.com/donate/johnson…

THREAD: Ron Johnson has spent the entirety of the pandemic spreading conspiracy theories about the coronavirus. Now he’s saying mouthwash is an effective treatment for COVID-19. Ron Johnson is dangerous for Wisconsin—and defeatable. Help us end his career: wisdems.org/defeatron
Unofficially known as @TheWorstSenator, Ron Johnson—who constantly goes after vaccines and masking—made headlines after saying “standard gargle mouthwash” might reduce COVID replication. It’s downright embarrassing.

It got to the point where Listerine felt obliged to correct the record.

Earlier this week, I posted a lengthy thread about the WI GOP's blistering attacks on democracy. It's gotten worse in the last few days. Now Republicans are threatening to jail mayors of WI cities. Thread (and—donate! wisdems.org/november) ⤵️
Michael Gableman, the far-right crackpot Stop the Stealer who is spending taxpayer $ to advance conspiracy theories (thanks to GOP Speaker Robin Vos) is now threatening to jail the mayors of Madison and Milwaukee if they won't agree to private interviews
jsonline.com/story/news/pol…
It's essentially political intimidation, because Gableman's legal case is, per the Green Bay mayor's lawyer, "lacking in legal merit and built upon a gross distortion of the relevant facts"—to the degree that the mayor intends to file a motion for sanctions. Image

Democracy in Wisconsin is under brutal assault with the GOP pushing to charge members of our bipartisan election commission with felonies. We’re fighting back—and the stakes couldn't be higher. Help us hit our Nov goal of 101 new monthly donors by midnight:wisdems.org/november
Republicans are trying to seize control from our state’s election commission and put the GOP-dominated Wisconsin state legislature in charge of elections. This would open a direct path to Republican politicians overturning election results they don’t like.
Republican Speaker Robin Vos says that most of the members of Wisconsin's bipartisan Elections Commission should “probably” face criminal charges.

With @GovEvers’s veto, the Republican attempt to re-gerrymander our state and thwart our democracy has slammed into a brick wall. Governor Tony Evers has demonstrated once more that he is the last line of defense against anti-democratic attacks. 1/
Republican legislators in Wisconsin have lost sight of how a democracy works—voters are supposed to choose their elected officials, not the other way around.
The process of drawing legislative maps should be fair, transparent, and nonpartisan, but as we’ve seen, Republicans will stop at nothing to hold onto power.

DEMS: If we want to win, we’ve got to show up. So today I’m asking you to join me in supporting the Brown County Democratic Party, which is doing amazing things in Wisconsin’s biggest swing county. Support @BrownWIDems here & read on: secure.actblue.com/donate/wisdems…
Brown County is Wisconsin’s fourth biggest county (after Milwaukee, Dane, and Waukesha), and Green Bay is Wisconsin’s third largest city. In 2020, Brown County turned out 12,129 more Dem votes than in 2016—which is more than half of Biden’s statewide margin of victory.
How did Brown County Dems jump their turnout by 23%(!) in 2020? Organizing. Communicating with voters. A massive team effort. Which is what you’d imagine from the home of the Green Bay Packers.
