Here is a summary of the latest #COVID19AB numbers: There are now 365 people in hospital due to COVID-19. Of the 297 non-ICU, 63.3% are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. Of the 68 in ICU, 75% are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. (1/9)

Over the past 24 hours, we ID’d 202 new cases & completed about 4.2K tests. On Dec 11, we ID’d 288 new cases from about 6.5K tests. On Dec 10, 373 new cases were ID’d from about 8.6K tests. Complete, up-to-date data can be found here. alberta.ca/covid-19-alber… (2/9)

Sadly 3 new COVID-related deaths were reported to AB Health in the last 72hrs. I extend my sincere condolences to all who are grieving the loss of a loved one. (3/9)

7 new cases of the Omicron variant have been ID’d in Alberta and our total is now 30 cases. (4/9)

Of the newly reported cases, one is a suspected case of community transmission with an unknown source. It is currently under investigation and we will update Albertans as we learn more. (5/9)

I would like to remind Albertans that we have a number of measures in place to slow transmission of COVID-19 and its variants, incl. case investigation, contact tracing, PCR testing recommendations for close contacts & rapid testing options for household contacts. (6/9)

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is now performing contact tracing all close contacts of cases that are positive, or suspected to be positive, with the Omicron variant. AHS will notify these Albertans with a phone call, a letter or a text message. (7/9)

Contact notifications are also occurring for close contacts of COVID-19 cases who have recently travelled outside of Canada and the United States where it hasn’t been determined yet if they are positive for the Omicron variant. (8/9)
