I've had conflict with almost every political faction in the past 15 years in multiple countries, and none has deployed the age-old trope about gay men 0- we're predatory pedophiles -- more than the left. My husband is a 36-year-old Congressman but it's their go-to insult. 
One reason bigoted tropes are so common on the left -- they're so comfortable with racist insults of all kinds, they hurl bigoted stereotypes at the slightest inkling -- is because they believe they're so enlightened and morally evolved that it can't be malignant when they do it.
Given the latest outbreak on the liberal-left of all the standard homophobic and racist tropes about @davidmirandario - he's just a dumb, manipulated boy - this was begun by @JeffreyToobin on CNN during the Snowden reporting, repeatedly calling David an empty-headed drug "mule."
In response to all that innuendo, @benyt, as BuzzFeed editor-in-chief, sent a reporter to Brazil to profile David by spending a full week with us. She came back disgusted by the caricature of David, noting how heavily involved he was in all of our work.

I know I shouldn't be shocked any more, but every time the scummiest parts of the liberal-left start whipping out every crude stereotype of gay men from the Global South to disparage David and our marriage, it reminds me how entitled they think they are to play with these tropes.
