Happy birthday to @RanaDaggubati. Here is an interesting story of how he got his most famous role of Bhallaladeva.

Did you know that one of the first people the producers of movie had in mind for Bhallaladeva was Jason Momoa, who played Khal Drogo from Game Of Thrones. ImageImage
In the very early stages of scripting, SS Rajamouli invited a few people to his house and gave an indication of what he wanted to make.. No Story, just outlines.

He showed a map of a kingdom of Mahishmati - it had mountain ranges on 3 sides and a huge waterfall. ImageImage
The waterfall was supposed to represent the unfathomable - people below will never be able to go on top of the waterfall.

Rajamouli explained the time period to be sometime after Ramayana and before Mahabharatha. Image
The character of Bhallaladeva was explained by @ssrajamouli

"There is this tyrant king, standing on his balcony, looking at a 100 ft statue of himself being erected. This is Bhallaladeva, who never believed in God, but liked the idea of deityhood with him being the deity." Image
"There are about a 100 men under the statute and he liked the power of giving or taking life away. Just a second before the statue falls, he lets them go."

This was enough for @RanaDaggubati to say yes to one of Indian cinema's most iconic characters. #ranadaggubati Image

Its been 50 years since Pakistan's armed forces laid down their arms at a ceremony in Dhaka before the joint command of the Indian armed forces and Bangladesh's Mukti Bahini.

As the two armed forces were celebrating their victory, Mrs Gandhi had other things to worry about. 1/ Image
1. The enormous cost of the war
2. The cost of dealing with over 10M refugees
3. The un-budgeted responsibility of having to look after the 93,000 Pakistani soldiers taken as POWs.

India wanted to keep the POW's in conditions that went above and beyond Geneva norms. 2/ Image
Despite all this, the biggest concern for Mrs Gandhi - who would lead Bangladesh. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was tried by a Pakistani military court and sentenced to death.

In his prison cell, a 6.5 ft long grave was dug with a rope with a loop at the end hanging over it. 3/ Image

#BornToday Pele - a man credited with more than 1000 goals.

A man who despised penalties, his 1000th goal was ironically a penalty.
He could have scored his 1000th on the day he scored his 999th.

But his team's goalkeeper was injured and SURPRISE SURPRISE, Pele stood in goal.

Almost as bad as having Messi as your draught excluder.
Mohun Bagan paid $5000 to the New York Cosmos who had signed Pele to play an exhibition game in India.

According to @SGanguly99, Pele is the greatest player to have played at the Eden Gardens.

On the occasion of @anilkumble1074 's 51st birthday - a little known story of how a very much vegetarian Kumble ate 2 bears for lunch.

Setting the stage - 1995, hot and dry summer in the county championships in England. Kumble is playing for Northamptonshire.
They were second in the table going to take on the first placed team Warwickshire. Warwickshire, though without Brian Lara, were defending champions and were leading the table at that time.

Few years later, Kumble would dismiss Lara looking like this.
Allan Lamb won the toss for Northamptonshire and decided to bat first. They were skittled out for 152 with only David Capel managing to get to a half century.
David Capel then proceeded to take a 7fer to restrict Warwickshire to 224. Remarkably 140 of them came from Roger Twose.

#OnThisDay 8 years ago a wonderful tale of love, longing and loneliness was released that featured the late great Irrfan, @NimratOfficial and @Nawazuddin_S.

Our thread celebrating the movie. #8YearsOfTheLunchbox Image
Irrfan and Nimrat never met during the shooting of the film.

It was only during the promotions that they met for the first time. Image
This poster of The LunchBox is a nice tribute to the famous play Tumhari Amrita that starred Shabana Azmi and Farooq Shaikh.

Tumhari Amrita sees the characters communicate with each other through letters. ImageImage
