It has been a hard week, so as a distraction from all of it here’s my favourite WTF British TV moments from 2021 ✨
1. When Emma Thompson lost her shit to Adele’s music during #AnAudienceWithAdele
2. And when Alan Carr was asked to cover for Adele whilst she had her makeup fixed
3. When Dermot O’Leary was thanked for coming out on This Morning
4. When Prue Leith talked about how she always put in “two holes” so she could “squirt” on Bake Off
5. And when Tom Allen’s crack was complimented by Paul Hollywood on Bake Off
6. When This Morning had a cocktail demonstration and *everything* went wrong
7. When a groom thought he was meeting his bride on Married at First Sight #MAFSUK
8. When Carol Kirkwood fell over because of Flash the dog on @BBCBreakfast
9. When @vicderbyshire couldn’t get her high heel shoes on at the start of a BBC News bulletin
10. When @BBCBreakfast decided to put a news reporter on a rollercoaster (just listen out to how he pronounces “MONDAY”)
11. When an interview with Sven Goran-Eriksson on @SkyNews kept getting interrupted with a picture of Lembit Öpik
12. When Richard Madeley went full Alan Partridge on @GMB after an item about Shamima Begum
13. When Jackie Weaver went viral because of *that* Parish Council meeting and she told @BBCBreakfast that was having the time of her life
14. When Alison Hammond asked Graham Norton about his dog on #ThisMorning
15. When Josie Gibson fell into a lake during a competition live on #ThisMorning
16. When Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen decided to surprise this couple during the Changing Rooms revival
17. When Olivia Colman accidentally dunked Jack Whitehall on Graham Norton’s show
18. When this competition winner on Saturday Night Takeaway had the time of her life
19. When River Medway made did an outfit in honour of a Thomas Waghorn statue (who often has a traffic cone on his head)
20. When we ran low on fuel so BBC News dispatched a reporter called Phil McCann to a petrol station
21. When the PM’s “Party-gate” was all over the news and Ant & Dec joined the resistance on #imacelebrity

(compilation via @RyanJL74)
22. And when @antanddec told us who will be on #ImACeleb next year

“Evening Prime Minister”

23. When Moldova tried the longest note in #Eurovision history and it ended up sounding like a car alarm
24. When Iceland were asked to give their points and instead they demanded to play “JA JA DING DONG” #eurovision
25. And when Iceland’s entry did the best #eurovision keyboard solo of all time
26. We ended up getting ZERO points and Graham Norton didn’t mince his words
27. When a taxidermy cat was unveiled on ITV’s #ThePetShow
28. When BBC News interviewed Mr Blobby
29. When Jenny in Gogglebox spent an entire series making notes on who “H” could be in Line of Duty, only for the real “H” to be revealed.
30. When Kathy Burke visited a TikTok house for a Channel 4 documentary
31. And finally, when the amazing BBC weatherman @OwainWynEvans performed the BBC News theme with 50 other drummers at the same time.

32. The @BBCNews Channel then used their own attempt to countdown the *actual* news on their own channel the following week
33. @OwainWynEvans drummed for 24 hours straight and raised millions for charity. Here is how it all ended.

It’s been a difficult year, but there’s been a lot of light and a lot of nonsense. Thanks for reading.

It has been quite the election, so here are my WTF TV election moments from 2024 ✨
1. When Rishi Sunak announced the election, only for it to be overshadowed by the pouring rain and D:Ream’s “Things Can Only Get Better” blaring from a nearby loudspeaker
2. And when, earlier that day, the same loudspeaker played the Imperial March (aka the Darth Vader theme), which could be heard on Sky News

“Netflix to reveal for first time how many people watch its shows in the UK”!!! theguardian.com/media/2022/oct…
Netflix is to join the audience measurement system BARB, which means that we can finally see how popular their shows are compared to shows on traditional TV channels.

They made a promise back in 2019 - and they’re following through with it.
Why are Netflix doing this?

* They are launching an ad-supported model, so they need to have transparency so that advertisers can be convinced to part with cash.

* When Netflix have a really big show, it'll now be obvious. Their shows will also make BARB's Top 50 shows.
