This tweet overlooks the role the gardaí play in state violence against sex workers in terms of evictions, jailing and deportation.

This overlooks the role gardaí play brothel-keeping law enforcement. Work together for safety? Go to prison, have your earnings seized and given to a religious NGO. Have a partner or husband? They may go to jail for “living off earnings” of a SW. & you’re getting evicted.

This tweet ignores the fact that many sex workers won’t call gardaí because of past experiences or a fear of getting evicted, jailed or deported.

This tweet fails to take into account how those texts may have been received for SWers that weren’t aware they were on the gardaí’s radar.
The contact info was gotten by data scraping the escort Ireland website, not through close ties to the sex worker community in Ireland.

The Gardaí fail to acknowledge how large a part of the violence they are in International Day to End Violence Against Sex Workers. They’re the violence! Blindly following TORL laws has led to a massive surge in violence against us.

Red Umbrella Front has members that have met with senior gardaí to discuss the lack of trust in gardaí. They responded by telling sex workers they planned to increase brutality against us.

@uglymugsie is a life-saving service that helps sex workers stay alive in a hostile police climate. During the meeting senior garda declan daly threatened to close it down within the month despite sex workers telling them that would lead to sex worker murders.

We have members driven to the brink of suicide by the actions of gardaí.
This is the same police force whose actions led to the tragic death of Dara Quigley. Nobody was brought to Justice for her death. m.independent.ie/irish-news/gar…

Another thought… the gardaí refuse to respect sex workers or treat us with decency, so who was this tweet for? Certainly not sex workers. So, then does this mean they know they are doing wrong when they brutalize us?
