Here is a little mini-thread thread about pronouns. 1/8
Once, a few years ago, I was participating in a nationwide discussion, on Zoom, that was supposed to be about addressing racism in America. 2/8
At one point, we all got into break-out rooms with 2 or 3 participants. I got into my breakout room with one guy. He started out by saying his name and his pronouns. 3/8
I just gave my name. He asked me what my pronouns were and my response was "I don't do the 'preferred pronoun thing.'" 4/8
He said, "Well I need to know how to address you respectfully." My response: "You can just address me the normal way, using the second person pronoun 'you.'" 5/8
Him: "Right, but how do I refer to you when we go report back on our discussion? Is it she/her, he/him, they/them? What?" 6/8
Me: "It should be evident to you that I am female." This went on for some time until I just got sick of it and left the whole thing. 7/8
The moral of the story is that a conversation that was supposed to be about racism in America, which is an actual problem that we have to deal with, got completely hijacked by a conversation about pronouns. Thanks, racists. 8/8

Here is a fun story, in thread-form, about something that happened a few years ago on FB. A man named Kenneth kept not listening to terves who were attempting in good faith to educate him with well-sourced research papers. 1/8
Kenneth kept whining that all the sources being provided were too long and complicated. So I wrote this for him. I decided to revive it here today, and I would like to now dedicate it to Seth. 2/8
"Here is a very brief essay. I will call it, 'For Kenneth and Other Dudes who Don't Like it When Women Stand Up for Ourselves.'... 3/8
May 2021: "I know several women ... who have ... switched from Democrat to ... Republican or Independent because the leadership of the Democratic party ... refuses to listen to women when it comes to our concerns regarding so-called 'gender identity.'" 2 karadansky.com/read/things-ar…
July 2021: "Dear Democratic Party leadership (and other people in charge of running things), I have a question: What is wrong with you?" 3 karadansky.com/read/a-questio…
"I have personally warned staff members of prominent Democratic Senators that women will be leaving the party in droves if it doesn’t pay attention to our concerns...
I understand that we do not have the kind of money that buys complicity. We are not the Denton’s law firm, which in 2019 published a remarkable document outlining its strategy of getting “gender identity” enshrined in law using tactics of stealth and manipulation...
In a massive blow to women's reproductive rights, a near total ban on abortion went into effect in Texas today after the Supreme Court failed to act on an emergency request to halt the law from taking effect. No surprise there. But here's what's interesting to me about it ...
Writing for @nprpolitics, @NinaTotenberg writes: "The Texas law, passed in May, bans all abortions in the state after six weeks of pregnancy - well before many women even know they are pregnant." npr.org/2021/09/01/103…
"Pediatricians and other health care workers are suing the Biden administration over a mandate tied to health care which would ... require medical professionals to provide gender-related services and surgeries despite objections, medical or otherwise." dailywire.com/news/3000-plus…
I received an email from an anonymous woman in VA today. I am sharing it here, with permission, with minor clarity edits. (I cannot vouch for its veracity.)
By "piece on Loudoun County," she means a blog post from yesterday. 1/14
"I'm not on twitter (my account got locked in 2019 and I deleted it) so I can't contact you that way... 2/14
I read Ovarit and I saw your piece about Loudon County and the same thing is happening in Albemarle County VA where we had a school board meeting last night 8/12/21 to vote on the same transgender policy... 3/14
