In a massive blow to women's reproductive rights, a near total ban on abortion went into effect in Texas today after the Supreme Court failed to act on an emergency request to halt the law from taking effect. No surprise there. But here's what's interesting to me about it ...
Writing for @nprpolitics, @NinaTotenberg writes: "The Texas law, passed in May, bans all abortions in the state after six weeks of pregnancy - well before many women even know they are pregnant." npr.org/2021/09/01/103…
I received an email from an anonymous woman in VA today. I am sharing it here, with permission, with minor clarity edits. (I cannot vouch for its veracity.)
By "piece on Loudoun County," she means a blog post from yesterday. 1/14
"I'm not on twitter (my account got locked in 2019 and I deleted it) so I can't contact you that way... 2/14
I read Ovarit and I saw your piece about Loudon County and the same thing is happening in Albemarle County VA where we had a school board meeting last night 8/12/21 to vote on the same transgender policy... 3/14
In light of recent events, I’m seeing lots of chatter about the interaction between laws that prohibit discrimination on the basis of “gender identity” in public accommodations and indecent exposure laws. Here are some thoughts.

1/10 Here is a story that vividly illustrates why women and girls do not want men and boys in the bathrooms/toilets. I promise this story is 100% true.
2/10 I was 13-years-old and visiting an amusement park with my friend and both of our mothers. It was a hot summer day, and the park was very crowded. My friend was wearing white shorts.
3/10 My mom and I were walking behind my friend and her mom, and I suddenly saw blood on the back of my friend's shorts. I ran up to her to tell her. She was mortified.
1/9 The fight to beat the #genderidentityindustry is going to have to be nonpartisan. Not bi-partisan, not cross-partisan. It has to be nonpartisan and global.
2/9 I recently accepted an invitation to speak with a group of US Republican women. They invited me knowing that I am a radical feminist Democrat. They expressly wanted to hear my feminist critique of "gender identity."
3/9 One woman asked, "Kara, what are we going to do about the problem of transgender athletes competing in women's sports?"
