🚨🚨 MP @BobBlackman - ‘What we do know is the figures that I saw last week were that 96% of the people in hospital with Covid were unvaccinated’

MP Bob Blackman is one of several MPs going out across the media presenting facts that are not supported but the Governments own data.

I have also fact checked some of the information on high numbers of hospitalisations quoted by @StephenNolan. He was quoting SAGE saying up to 6000 per day.
Remember unvaccinated is a smaller proportion of the population. If you have two people with similar characteristics the person unvaccinated is at higher risk of admission than the vaccinated

It does vary by personal characteristics.

But numbers wise most in hospital vaccinated
This thread highlights where misinformation has been used across the media the past few weeks.
Of course if @BobBlackman can provide these figures he saw last week I will be more than happy to update this thread and alert everyone.
Bob has linked to an article he read. I've responded to explain it's misleading because they say 97% unvaccinated.

They define someone with two doses of a vaccine unvaccinated. This is false.

Seems to be a daily occurrence of prominent Government ministers going out on the media making claims not supported by the data.

🚨🚨 Denmark - #Omicron 17,155 cases identified as of 16 December.

◼️ 8.5% in unvaccinated
◼️ 79.0% Two doses only
◼️ 10.8 % booster doses

➡️ Double vaccinated over represented

➡️ Unvaccinated and boosted under represented based on % of population in each group
The data suggests your more likely to test positive for #Omicron if your double vaccinated than if you had no vaccine at all or a booster.

➡️ 16% of population unvaccinated but they make up 8.5% of cases.

➡️ 24% of population are boosted and make up 10.8% of cases.
Unvaccinated are over represented among the other variants, which will be predominantly Delta.

Of the 17,155 #Omicron cases just 30 have ended up in hospital and less than 5 in ICU. There is a time lag between cases and needing to get healthcare if needed.

#Covid cases are up 51% week on week across the UK.

Case changes across the countries

◾️ England up 57%
◾️ Northern Ireland up 11%
◾️ Scotland up 30%
◾️ Wales up 13%
Within England, week on week the case rises are among those aged 20 to 54 with little change among older people and falls in children.
No update to hospital patients on weekends, latest data here for England

If the Health Secretary thinks South Africa may be coping better with #Omicron because of natural immunity then why is the UK Government now refusing to even acknowledge this as I explained here to @iancollinsuk
Even Chris Whitty was talking about the impact of natural immunity on reducing the hospital rate - the immune system offering good protection against infection.

🚨🚨 @sajidjavid - ‘If we look at those that are the most ill in hospital needing the most care and attention, around 9 out of 10 of them are unvaccinated’

FACT CHECK

➡️ This relates to 154 patients over 5 months and around 0.14% of #Covid patients admitted to hospital
It is true that 91% of patients requiring Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation for Severe Respiratory Failure were unvaccinated - this was 141 people of the 154 patients.

Over the same period, 100,000 patients were admitted to hospital with Covid.
I would hardly say quoting this most extreme care is representative of the likely outcome for patients.

He is basing her claims on 0.14% of the population admitted to hospital with Covid and ignoring the other 99.86%.

➡️ Nationally around 40% of patients admitted to hospital unvaccinated.

We don't have numbers for London but if what he is saying is true it bucks national trend.
