This should have been the Democrats’ number one talking point in response to Republican claims of vote hacking in 2020. I have posted this on Twitter umpteen times since the election. My guess is that Democratic leadership overrode Wyden. 1/
Instead, Democratic leadership ran with the misleading “most secure election ever” talking point. The talking point misled bc it failed to mention that the bar was exceedingly low. I provide more detail on this issue in this Medium piece. 2/ jennycohn1.medium.com/why-have-so-ma…

7/ The #SAFEAct was initially the #PAVEAct. I messaged both extensively. The GOP killed them. axios.com/gop-senator-el…
8/ I fully support the #FreedomToVoteAct, but it is more focused on gerrymandering, dark money, & voter suppression than election security. The good security news: it wld ban paperless voting machines & require that all voters have the option to mark their ballots by hand. BUT…
9/ … it would not require manual audits until 2024, which is too late imo. Even in 2024, it wld require that jurisdictions manually audit only one race.
10/ The #FreedomToVoteAct wld also allow wireless modems to remain installed in some precinct ballot scanners until 2030, which is inexcusable.
11/ The National Voting Rights Task Force has written to @amyklobuchar about the need to significantly improve the provision re: wireless modems. So far, they have received no response.
12/ The wireless modems are a concern bc they connect the precinct scanners & receiving end systems to the internet. They were installed in at least a few swing states beginning in 2015. nbcnews.com/politics/elect…

Modems removed from voting machines in 5 NC counties, 12/16/21

See how fast NC did it once people w/ power insisted? This must be done nationally b4 2022, but the #FreedomToVoteAct lets officials delay to 2030. ⁦⁦⁦@amyklobuchar⁩, pls fix! 1/ carolinacoastonline.com/regional/artic…
I support the #FreedomToVoteAct, but am unhappy that it postpones removal of modems to 2030 & manual audits to 2024, at which point just 1 race must be audited. We need better security in 2022. Improved security provisions wld also persuade GOP voters 2 pressure GOP lawmakers. 2/
In the meantime, we need statewide campaigns to #RemoveTheModems in states where we know they’ve been installed (usually be ES&S), eg., Florida, Wisconsin, &Michigan. @harrisonjaime 3/

Back in the day, the Religious Right (Paul Weyrich) hated Roger Stone. Recently, however, Stone is pretending to convert to Christianity . So is his protege Ali Alexander. I believe his protege Mike Caputo is having a “Christian awakening” too. Ditto Milo. They’re scammers. 1/

WTAF?! So harassment by Roger Stone & his protege Jacob Engels may in fact have been the catalyst for Stephanie Murphy’s decision to resign from Congress completely, which she just announced?! @TheJusticeDept

According to Verified Voting, “almost 75% of registered voters now live in jurisdictions that use e-poll books. There is little oversight or regulation on e-poll-book companies or on election venders…generally.” By ⁦⁦@suehalpernVT⁩, 12/20/21 1/ newyorker.com/news/daily-com…
I, too, have attempted to warn about the rapidly increasing trend away from paper poll books toward electronic ones. At a minimum, we need backup paper poll books on Election Day, but some jurisdictions don’t have them. @GaSecofState is fighting in court to NOT have backups. 😳2/
I recently interviewed @MarilynRMarks1 of @CoalitionGoodGv about @GaSecofState’s effort to overturn the ruling she obtained, which requires that Georgia use backup paper poll books in case it’s electronic ones fail. 3/
