1/8 #Sarmat liquide heavy ICBM - we waited for the start of flight tests of the Sarmat and discussed that they could move to the right in 2022. Now the media has already begun to issue the same information. Why is this happening?
2/8 #Sarmat Obviously, this is a completely new missile for the Russian rocket industry. Neither GRZ Makeev nor NPO Mashinostroyenia have ever made a so large ICBM. Working out on paper doesn't count. And, probably, such a new product “did not come in”.
3/8 #Sarmat Then one can only guess - what exactly "did not go"? The upper stage and payload? I think that there are no questions with the payload, but the "bus" is one of the most important part of such a ICBM. It is possible that there are problems with its fine-tuning.
4/8 #Sarmat Guidance system? Perhaps, but actually here we have always had a fairly large reserve and I think that there are no cardinal innovations in the control system of the Sarmat in comparison with the most complex missile control systems of the 1980s.
5/8 #Sarmat Engines? Maybe. With a delay from the plans of the jump starts, one of the reasons was called the unavailability of the engines. Moreover, here we are probably talking about disrupting the delivery time of finished engines. It's possible I think.
6/8 #Sarmat What else? The actual stages and hulls of the missiles? The Krasnoyarsk Machine-Building Plant was unable to assemble a new type of hull with higher requirements than for throw-in launches? Not sure if this is possible. Still, the plant is quite worthy
7/8 #Sarmat PAD? Tested in throwing launches. Starting infrastructure? Likewise. Flight test infrastructure? A system of observation posts along the flight path and equipment at the Kura test site? I doubt. If so, then everything is somehow too wrong in the organization and plans
8/8 #Sarmat Didn't have enough money!? It's incredible. but probably. In general, I would bet on the technical novelty of the project and the unpreparedness of the cooperation of the Makeev SRC for such large-scale missiles. But this is surmountable. Will wait 2022.

1 Sarmat! How much in this sound. An informal look at the 15A28/RS-28 "Sarmat" heavy liquid ICBM program and at the same time a few thoughts about the potential of the new ICBM

(all at t.me/militaryrussia… and at site)
2 So, we have the following results of Sarmat program:
- the first and so far the only launch of ICBMs in flight design tests was successfully completed on 04/20/2022;
- in the media statements appeared that the Sarmat tests were successful (but was only one flight);
3 - work is underway on the preparation of infrastructure at the positions of the first regiment in the Uzhur region, but their appearance on satellite images suggests that construction work is unlikely to be completed before 2023

1/ SS-18 mod5 SATAN / R-36M2 / 15A18M combat stage (bus) from several videos appeared on Russian TV after the first and so far the only launch of the Sarmat heavy ICBM on April 20, 2022

Firstly, for the first time we see in such detail the fully combat stage (bus) Image
2/ So 4-chamber rocket engine, housing with two tiers of mounts for warheads and a removable fairing.

In one tier, you can count 7 places for warheads. But there are two tiers - a total of 14. We recall the archives of the Cold War - there was the number 14. CIA knew something! ImageImageImageImage
3/ Secondly, the fairing removal engine being pulled out of the fairing is very clearly visible. After separation, the fairing is go away from the entire solemn procession. Firts of all I even remembered the Trident-2 aerodynamic needle, but everything is simpler. ImageImageImage

1/ The first Soviet long-range air-to-ground cruise missile X-55, which was made under the influence of the American ALCM, was only in the nuclear version. And specifically for this rocket, VNIIA created a unique thermonuclear warhead.

2/ VNIIA created a unique thermonuclear warhead - compact and with a new automation system in which "automatic operation algorithms were implemented depending on the situation developing in flight." What does it mean?

3/ Presumably, the principle of "touchy" or "counter detonation" is implemented in the warhead. Those. when a missile is hit by air defense systems on its flight route, it detonates its thermonuclear warhead.

#1 Sarmat ICBM
A brief analysis of the launch of the heavy ICBM 15A28 "Sarmat" on April 20, 2022 (Plesetsk training ground, Yubileinaya site). Probably no serious discoveries and just "Mr. Obvious", but...

#2 Sarmat - Start sequence:
Launch of a "mortar" missile with the release of the missile from the silo due to the operation of the PAD
The PAD pallet is fired with a left-back direction from the course to the target after the missile leaves the silo
t.me/militaryrussia…
#3 Sarmat - Start sequence:
There is no visible reversal of the missile in azimuth after leaving the silo (probably, the missile is installed in the silo with an orientation close to the course to the Kura)
The launch of the main engines was normal

#1 Yars
In 2000, a state contract was signed between the Russian Ministry of Defense and the Moscow Institute of Thermal Engineering (MIT) for the implementation of the Yars R & D - the development of the Topol-M ICBM with updated engines and a multiple warhead.
#2 Yars
This "Topol-M" with MIRV was supposed to become completely Russian - actually "Topol-M" was only partially Ru - the project was originally a joint brainchild of Dnepropetrovsk and MIT. Even the first flight model of the 1L missile (launched 2nd in 1995), was from Ukraine.
#3 Yars
"Topol-MR" was supposed to absorb everything that could not be implemented in "Topol-M" - new nozzles, new fuels, a new combat stage, new combat equipment.
