Here are the exact steps I use when starting work with a new content marketing client (a thread)
1. Identify their ideal buyer and map out that buyers journey from having a problem to seeking a solution to finding my client (and buying).
2. Create a strategy from the map using data to learn which channels/content will bring the buyer to the next step.
3. Create a messaging guide. This is a 3-5 page document that tells the marketing story for the clients main offering. It’s what I use when people say “ send me something” or when I need a quick message idea.
4. Meet with clients to establish goals. This gives us the info we need to create content that brings meaningful ROI.
5. Implement! Blogs, articles, social posts, paid ads - create written content that is interesting and helpful to human and search engine readers.
6. Optimize for growth. SEO and tracking data metrics (think engagement and conversions).
7. Analyze for what works - and do more of that.
To summarize: 1. Identify the ideal client 2. Map their journey 3. Tell the story 4. Set smart goals 5. Write valuable content 6. Optimize it 7. Measure success 8. Do it again
