At some point Congress will vote to decide if America will continue to be a democracy.
Of course, I’m talking about voting rights.
A lot of polarization is swirling around the Freedom to Vote Act and the facts of this bill aren’t the easiest to understand.
Obviously because the main co-sponsor is Sen Manchin, there will be a lot of negativity on this thread about BBB and filibuster rules.
But, for you to truly support it, we need to get the message out about how it matters.
This is the most important legislation of our lifetime.
First off, this bill will enact an automatic voter registration system through your DMV and ensure all voters have access to online voter registration.
This streamline allows the DMV to collect information and to electronically transfer it to the voter database.
Next up, the Freedom to Vote act would offer at least 15 consecutive days of early in-person voting, including two weekends.
Also, it will offer same-day voter registration at all polling locations by 2024.
It’s so simple that it shouldn’t even be an argument- opening up more days of early voting ensures more American voices are heard.
The Freedom to vote act will also ensure that states count all mail-in ballots sent by Election Day and received within seven days of an election.
The Freedom to Vote Act will establish no-nonsense mail voting for all voters in federal elections, free postage for returning ballots, and accessible drop boxes.
No need to worry about stamps or driving around all day looking for drop boxes anymore if we pass this.
The Freedom to Vote act will count all mail-in ballots sent by Election Day and received within seven days of an election.
Going further, it will ensure the count of all provisional ballots for eligible races in a county, regardless of the precinct they were cast in.
Rounding it out, the bill also makes Election Day a public holiday, restores the right to vote for felons who have served their time and includes serious protections for populations facing challenges like people with disabilities, Native Americans and underserved communities.
Now, all of this is great- right? But we have to go further and this bill does.
This bill will ban partisan gerrymandering in a way we’ve never seen before, strengthen our election security and combat the influence of money in elections by improving disclosure requirements.
If passed by Congress, the bill would put in place the most revolutionary changes to redistricting in the American history- including strengthening other protections for communities of color, and making it easier for voters to get bad maps quickly struck down in court.
The Freedom to Vote Act will set basic national standards to make sure all Americans can cast their ballots in the way that works best for them, securely, and fairly regardless of what community you call home.
This has never been done before.
It’s super easy to fall into the Republican trap of dividing us- they know to pit against one another to cause chaos and anger.
They want to muddy up our path to getting this done.
If you’re still on the fence, the GOP is terrified of this bill.
They know it’s power.
If you feel dejected and like it’s hopeless. Remember my last thread on Biden and how much we’ve done in ONE YEAR.
We’re making historic progress and this bill isn’t a pipe dream, we’re almost there.
Our members need your voices (and sometimes patience) to get it done.

The level of negativity I am seeing and hearing from democrats on here is unnerving, but I get it- @POTUS’s message isn’t getting out.
Because I respect Carville so much I’ll start with the economy.
It’s the strongest of any 1st term president in 50 years.
Corporate America is exploding because Biden’s Covid-19 vaccination and American Rescue Plans reduced the jobless rate to 4.2% in November from 6.2% in February.
Also, the GDP growth in every incoming administration during the past four decades never exceeded 2.74% until 2021.
I’m going to talk about the American rescue plan a few times because of how much it saved us.
Through the American Rescue Plan, Biden threw $66 billion into 36 million households- think that helped the economy and children eat?
I’ve been lucky enough to have met or worked with a lot of folks- Besides Sen. Jones (I’m biased)- @JoeBiden has been the most decent man that I have met.
I had the chance to spend part of a campaign day in 2017 with him and it changed how I view a lot of things-
Thread: 1/12
I was able to be with him and listen to him privately speaking to others behind closed doors- I expected him to talk electoral math of the race, how to win certain voters, and all the things we all usually talk about when we are campaigning. He didn’t.
2/12
He talked about decency. He told stories about his dad, his mother, people he met in his travels that shaped him.
He didn’t talk about prime ministers and leaders he knew- he talked about us. How our stories told him the right way. And he listened.
I don’t know who needs to hear this but being an asshole and being tough aren’t the same thing.
Empathy, humility, and sometimes even forgiveness for those who ask for it take a lot more mental toughness than joining abusers in their behavior.
That’s also what Biden stands for.
In the coming days I think I may share my own mental health stories of hurt, abuse, and heartbreak.
For all of us, this year has been devastating. For me, I lost almost everything I loved or cared about.
In almost all the case it was because I said- enough.
It is absolutely the right thing to not allow abuse. It’s the right thing to say “no more”.
But for me, what I have learned is when those who have abused me in my life have been confronted harshly- it hurts me just as bad to hurt them as it does myself to carry it.
