Over 300 billion emails are sent daily.

Few are worth your attention.

How do you stand out?

THREAD: A newsletter framework everyone should model after.
I've sent over 100,000,000 marketing emails in my career.

I've subscribed to hundreds of newsletters.

Alex Garcia's (@alexgarcia_atx) "Marketing Examined" newsletter checks all the boxes.

Let's break down 5 ways he's able to cut through the noise 👇
1/ He stands out in the inbox

Two tactics:

1. The signature emoji 🔍

It's memorable and makes it easy to find his emails.

2. The profile gif

He is the only person in my inbox that has this.

Unique and hard to miss.
2/ He focuses on deliverability

In his first email, he asks for a 5-second favor:

Reply "Yes" to the email.

This action sends a strong signal to inbox providers.

It helps prove he is a reputable sender.

And ensures good deliverability (and open rates) in the future.
3/ He's consistent

Every Thursday he sends the "Thursday Teardown."

It includes:
• A great marketing campaign
• Broken down into digestible parts
• With actionable advice you can use in your own marketing campaigns

(The teardown concept was the inspiration for this thread).
4/ He makes it easy to read

There is rarely a block of text longer than 2 lines.

Everything is short. quick. to the point.

But still value-packed.

This formatting makes it really easy to digest the content.
5/ He balances text and visuals

Every newsletter has a natural flow of visuals + body copy.

The visuals paint the picture and often call out key points (see below).

The body copy hammers home the main takeaways.
My Takeaways:

If you start with these 5 tactics.

And apply them to your topic of interest.

You're on your way to building a solid newsletter.
Next Steps:

• Growing your personal brand
• Becoming a better growth marketer

TL;DR

A newsletter framework that just works:

Costco generated over $226 billion in revenue in 2022.

They do this by being masters of persuasion.

7 principles of persuasion Costco uses to get you to buy: Image
1/ Reciprocity:

People tend to feel obligated to return a favor or a good deed.

By offering something of value first, you can create a feeling that people "owe you."

This makes it more likely for the person to comply with your request.

Here's how Coscto nails this principle:
Free Samples:

Costco is known for offering free samples throughout its stores.

This fosters a sense of goodwill and appreciation as customers shop.

Which makes you feel more inclined to reciprocate by making a purchase.

This persuasion principle pairs well with: Image

Notion has over 30 million users and a $10 billion valuation.

They dominate by using storytelling on their landing pages.

Specifically Dan Harmon’s Story Circle framework.

Let's break down how Notion uses the Story Circle to get millions of new users on board: Image
Dan Harmon’s Story Circle framework (for your landing page):

1. Protagonist: Customer
2. Need: Desire
3. Go: Your landing page
4. Search: Landing page content.
5. Find: CTA
6. Take: The price
7. Return: Back to daily life
8. Change: Life is better with product
1/ Protagonist

Notion’s Landing Page protagonist is clear.

It’s you. Image

Attention spans keep getting smaller.

You only get a few seconds to capture your reader's attention.

Hook 'em in with these 10 micro-copywriting frameworks:
Story-Outcome-Benefit:

S: Share a quick story.

O: Highlight the outcome.

B: Present the benefits. Image
Problem-Agitate-Solution:

P: Highlight a problem.

This story has stuck with me for years 👇

“A successful businessman on vacation was at the pier of a small coastal village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked...
Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna.

The businessman complimented the fisherman on the quality of his fish and asked how long it took to catch them.
The fisherman proudly replied,

“Every morning, I go out in my boat for 30 minutes to fish. I’m the best fisherman in the village”.
