Today is the Jayanthi of Sri Bellamkonda Ramaraya Kavi (1875–1914), a prolific writer and scholar from Andhra. He authored over 148 works in Sanskrit including Kavyas, Tikaas, Stotras! Only 45 remain with us now.
A forgotten literary personality with phenomenal contribution!🙏
Ramaraya Kavi lived only for 39 years. But his literary output was phenomenal!
Born into a Niyogi Brahmin family and initiated into Visishtadvaita, he wrote a number of works in Sanskrit inspired by Adi Shankara's Advaita Vedanta.
His Sanskrit is not easy at all!🙏
He was a Hayagreeva Upasaka. He composed a number of works in praise of Lord Hayagreeva and the Hayavadana Shatakam. You can download it here.
The Vedanta Sangraha was published by the Chinmaya Mission.
He was honoured with the Birudu of "Apara Shankara" for his extraordinary scholarship.
In Pamidipadu in Guntur district, there is a Bellamkonda Ramaraya Kavi Smaraka Bhavanam. A beautiful life-like Murti of his was installed there.
It is worth a pilgrimage for everyone!🙏
Just imagine what literary life must have been then! Stalwarts like Tirupati-Venkata Kavulu, Subrahmanya Sastry Varu, Bellamkonda Ramaraya Kavindruliu, many others!!
Only a century ago!! Unbelievable! At least reprint those books and make them available for everyone! 🙏
Earlier I had wrongly mentioned him to be the author of Bhagawata Champu. He wrote a commentary for Vellala Chidambara Sastry's work.
🙏😊
Recently in a conference organised by Sri @Atmaprajnananda ji, young scholar Sri Vaidyanathan Mahodaya presented a paper on one of Ramaraya Kavi's works. A link to the same :
Prof Ramasubramanian was introduced to Ramaraya Kavi's work Vedantamuktavali by Omkarananda Swamigal of Theni. He has done a whole lecture series on it. 😀🙏
Absolute honour and pleasure spending time with Veda Brahmasri Parameshwara Deekshitar in Chidambaram. He is a master of 6 Veda Shakhas!
-Rig Shalaka Shakha
-Krishna Yajur Taittreya & Maitrayani Shakhas
-Sama Kauthuma Shakha
-Shukla Yajur Kanva
-Atharvana Shaunaka Shakhas
🙏🤩
He is training a number of disciples in all these Veda Shakhas and passing on this precious ancient knowledge to them.
Almost no awards or honours have come his way. But he doesn't care. He is here to serve our Dharma.
Because of people like him, our Vedas are still safe! 🙏
It is unbelievable how much the human memory can retain! Six Veda Shakhas completely ascribed to the memory is no mean achievement!
When we have doubts, we call him and from memory he corrects us, be it swaras or uchhaarana. He scolds us when we open books to refer! 😂
Today is Avani Hastam on the traditional Tamil calendar. The Thirunakshatram of HH, the 44th Azhagiyasingar Sri Satagopa Vedantadesika Yathindra Mahadesikan.
If you want to learn how to revive Dharma in this day and age, his life is a real inspiration!
🙏😀🙏😀🙏
Popular as 'Mukkur' Azhagiyasingar, he got the construction of the grand Rajagopuram in Srirangam.
It was under his strong will and able guidance, such a mammoth project was achieved! The story of its history still gives goosebumps!
🤩🙏🤩🙏🤩
In the long and illustrious spiritual lineage of his Parampara, only he was addressed as 'Vedanta Desika', in honour of the original Saint.
His achievement in the modern times is no lesser than Swami Desika's in his era!
