An ongoing thread of movies/TV shows/documentaries I've watched in 2022🍿🧵
#1 Don't Look Up(2021) | @NetflixIndia
A hilarious satire that sums up the world we live in(for now)
DiCaprio's 🔥🔥🔥 monologue is exactly everything wrong with us today and it hits so hard💥 ImageImage
#2 Kadaseela Biriyani(2021) | @NetflixIndia
Probably one of the most unique, wonderfully shot Tamil films of the recent past?
Another film that gives Tamil Cinema a an original new cinematic voice in the form of Nishanth Kalidindi💥 Image
#3 Aranyak | @NetflixIndia
Fact, fiction, Family, politics, police & mythology come together in this rather engaging murder mystery set in small-town hilly India
Pretty good weekend binge👌👌👌 Image
#4: Dhamaka(2021) | @NetflixIndia
A masterclass on how to take an epic premise of a disaster movie & turn it into an epic disaster of a movie Image
#5: Pushpa(2021)
Apart from the obsession with showcasing female characters' midriff every 15 minutes(without giving them much else to do), pretty engaging film!
PS: ONLY Allu Arjun can pull off the dance moves/mannerisms he has in this film. What presence🔥 Image
#6: The Tender Bar(2021) | @PrimeVideoIN
The kind of movie I live for: feel-good coming-of-age stories; imperfect yet warm-hearted ppl trying to mend their broken past for a better future
PS: George Clooney directs Ben Affleck
PPS: Ull wish you had a man like Ben in your life! Image
#7: Madhuram | @SonyLIV
Man, I wasn't ready for this: the 1.4 million food shots, Joju's boyish charm & smile, Shruti Ramachandran's mere presence, unbelievably kind & loving characters that made me emotional about the ppl in my own life...

Just wasn't ready. ImageImage
#8: After Life | Season 3 | @NetflixIndia
My favourite feel-good show comes to an end, & how :')
Hilarious & heartbreakingly beautiful with @rickygervais at his peak of vulnerability; there's no show that constantly reminds u how short life is n the need to make the most of it♥️ Image
#9: Mudhal Nee Mudivum Nee(2022)
"I wish there was a way to know you were in the good old days before you actually left them."
This film is that...took me right back to those days🥲
@kishendas : a star is born! What a natural💥
And 'Chinese' also is ♥️♥️♥️ ImageImageImage
#10 The Hand of God @NetflixIndia
A film about almost nothing that somehow made me feel things n had me invested to the end. Or maybe I'm just too enamoured by the vibe of Italian cinema🤷‍♂️

Also Italian Timothee Chalamet is basically me(without the women) Image
#11: Bachelor(2021) @SonyLIV
Every human has a million stories to tell but to try telling all of them in a single movie? Konjam kashtam dhaan.
(+) partly engaging, visual aspects, music, doesn't glorify an asshole
(-) inconsistent/meandering screenplay, draggy Image
#12: Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana by @RajbShettyOMK | @ZEE5India
The gangster genre is done to death. This Kannada epic wakes it back up, breaks its skull open and steals its footwear
A small-budget film that's elevated to look like an international classic🔥🔥🔥 ImageImageImage
#13: Hridayam(2022)
There are so many things to love about this film that this space isn't enough. Watch it on the biggest screen possible to know what I'm talking about♥️ It's a buffet of nostalgia, charm & just pure goodness & chef @Vineeth_Sree makes sure we're all well-fed😌 Image
#14: King Richard
Nothing new if you've seen Dangal, but still a superbly told, deeply affecting story of a father's dream to make his daughters break the boundaries of poverty & racism; giving rise to 2 of the greatest athletes the world has ever seen: Venus & Serena Williams🔥 ImageImageImage
#15: Boiling Point(2021)
Running a restaurant can be tough, but you really understand how intense it can be when you watch this ticking time bomb of a movie, filmed in a single shot💣
High-octane drama! ImageImageImage
#16: A Hero(2021)
I will always, ALWAYS be in awe of Iranian filmmakers: how do they take simple, everyday characters and without any slow-motion shots or background score, tell such engaging, impactful stories...not to mention under all the restrictions they have🙏 Image
#17: I'm Not Done Yet
Haven't really watched any of Kapil Sharma's stuff before but I know what a household name he is...which is why this Netflix special is so interesting, primarily because of how he talks about depression & alcoholism.
Not a masterpiece but a step forward👌 Image
#18: Aziz Ansari: Nightclub Comedian
I love Aziz. Even spending half an hour with him where he reflects on the state of the world in his trademark laidback style is not just entertaining, but strangely therapeutic Image
#19: Mahaan
There's a good film hiding inside here...somewhere
Lot of meat in the story but no spice, nothing to chew on
Really needed better scenes and some focus Image
#20: The Tinder Swindler @NetflixIndia
100% recommend this Real-life remake of Ladies vs Ricky Behl and Naan Avan Illai👌👌👌 Image
#21: Valimai
Stunts: Great
Emotion: Absent
Everything else: Pretty mediocre Image
#22: Gehraiyaan
The music and cinematography are gorgeous, Deepika's even more gorgeous, but a film with a title that literally means 'depths' needed to have more depth than these surface-level pleasures
Engaging for sure, but not moving Image
#23: Gangubai Kathiawadi
What a delicious-looking big-screen spectacle🤤 From prod design to cinematography to dialogues to Bhansali's vision & attention to detail, everything is fire but it's @aliaa08 who makes everything come alive🔥
What a way to silence haters...Superstar🔥 ImageImageImageImage
#24: Toy Story(1995)
Wanted something to really take my mind off the real world & its problems so started an early Pixar revisit...and how it worked🥺
Such pure storytelling, & to think they made this back in 1995🙊🥲 Image
#25: The Batman
Pretty good reboot with some jaw-dropping sequences; you don't ever feel the 3-hour runtime because of how the screenplay moves but dai batman pls walk little fast da
half the film is just him entering a room slowwwly Image
#26: Kadaisi Vivasayi
How can a film be so...PURE?
Spectacular craft with such effortless emotion woven into every single frame
What makes me even happier: a housefull theater giving a standing ovation🥲

PS: god-level music by @Music_Santhosh & Richard Harvey Image
#27: Jhund
Finally, Bollywood gets a taste of what @beemji has been successfully doing in commercial Tamil cinema over the last decade🔥
Very entertaining film despite the runtime & a bit of a meandering screenplay Image
#28: Badhaai Do @NetflixIndia
Expected a fun, socially relevant entertainer, but got a beautiful, sensitive film that aims to empathise more than educate.
And i knew @RajkummarRao is a brilliant actor but this performance...man will make you cry 🥲 Image
#29: #TheAdamProject @NetflixIndia
Since 80s & 90s Spielberg, I haven't seen a sci-fi film with such a big heart♥️
Also contains probably the best Amma sentiment(AND Appa sentiment) scene ever!
Someday, in some timeline, I'll make a film like this🥲🤞 ImageImageImage
#30: Jalsa @PrimeVideoIN
Super-plausible story + tight screenplay + INSANE craft (god-level sound design) + first-rate performances
All the ingredients you need for an engaging thriller...perfectly mixed! Image
#31: Rocket Boys @SonyLIV
I'm a sucker for stories about space exploration but for most of my life, I've only gotten to see such content from Hollywood, about international space figures.
Finally a show that hits home, and how♥️
A slow-burning, highly-inspiring series🥲 Image
#32: #RRR
That interval is an image that I will never forget in my lifetime. It symbolises the peak madness of a creator, & I'll happily excuse 1000 logical loopholes if a filmmaker can make me feel this way
@ssrajamouli is the only one who can make fever dreams come alive🔥🔥🔥 Image
#33: Bheeshma Parvam @DisneyPlusHS
Pretty predictable(even despite the beats of Godfather) but very enjoyable 💥 Gorgeously shot too, and man does @mammukka look GOOOD! So effortlessly MASS🔥🔥🔥 ImageImage
#34: House of Gucci(2021)
Another reminder to never work with your family Image
#35: Spider-Man: #NoWayHome (2021)
Why didn't i watch this in the theatres😭 Image
#36: Sharmaji Namkeen @PrimeVideoIN
For anyone who's seen their parent retire from a job they've worked for decades...this will hit home♥️
Very sweet, very real film😌 Image
#37: Beast
Effort to write this tweet 🤝 effort to write the movie Image
#38: Severance | @AppleTVPlus
How much more can I really hype the greatest show on the internet right now
If you like shows like Black Mirror, this is going to take all of that n blast it into a whole new dimension Image
#39: #KGF2
Masala filmmaking in Beast Mode🔥 Scene after scene delivering goosebumps upon goosebumps; can see the painstaking effort in every sound effect, bgm track, cut & frame in a film that looks like 5x its budget🔥
So happy for this team, and so satisfied as an audience🙏 Image
#40: Dasvi @NetflixIndia
Maybe I have a soft corner for @juniorbachchan but this was actually a stress-free, fun watch😌
Loved how the 'history' sequences were executed Image
#41: WeCrashed @AppleTVPlus
Have always been a big fan of 'entrepreneur movies' & this is a GREAT addition to that genre which tells the unbelievably mad story of We work & its even madder founder, Adam Neumann
Anne Hathaway is superb but Jared Leto KILLS it🔥 1 Emmy parcel! Image
#42: #SaaniKaayidham @PrimeVideoIN
It's so gratifying to see a woman's vengeance in such a stunningly shot film😍
Wouldve liked more depth in the characters n the emotion/modulation in dubbing could've been better but still, super-engrossing 💥
@ArunMatheswaran @yaminiyag 👏👏👏 Image
#43: Ex Machina(2014)
Took me years to finally catch this brilliant film but feels like soon enough, it won't be a film anymore🙃 Image
#44: Modern Love: Mumbai @PrimeVideoIN
3 great shorts by Hansal Mehta, Vishal Bhardwaj & Dhruv Sehgal(for me personally) but overall, the series doesn't take big enough leaps. So much potential when it comes to a city like Mumbai but...falls short Image
#45: Thar @NetflixIndia
A regular revenge thriller slightly elevated in the style of a Western, set in a place we haven't seen many stories from except music videos
Wasn't impactful and not unforgettable, but a pretty engaging film if you have a couple hours Image
#46: Om Shanti Om(2007)
Rewatched it cause i was missing the SRK era.
This is when Bollywood went peak Bollywood and Bollywood-loving audience had a collective orgasm
Even after 15 years...SO MUCH FUN💥 Image
#47: Chennai 28 @sunnxt
Thanks to @sudhirsrinivasn & @vp_offl I rewatched this time machine of a film after YEARS and man...it feels like I watched it only yesterday because of how well i knew the dialogues n mannerisms n scenes
A film that has become part of culture ♥️ Image
#48: The Last Samurai @NetflixIndia
How to perfectly craft the 'Hero's Journey' with equal parts action, drama, emotion, culture and MASS

A true epic Image
#49: Puzhu @SonyLIV
Liked WHAT the film was trying to say much more than HOW they said it. Built a lot of intrigue with a deeply unsettling central character(a superb Mammukka) but by the time it gets to the end, it kinda falls flat Image
#50: Super Pumped: The Battle for Uber @justvoot
After WeCrashed this is the 2nd rise-crash-burn entrepreneur story I'm watching this year & while Super Pumped doesn't have as strong an emotional core as the former, still a really engaging show
Also: narrated by Tarantino💥 Image
#51: Everything Everywhere All At Once
This is what happens when Midnight Library meets every drug Johnny Depp & Sanju Baba have taken
Such a unique experience that for the first time, i was just 🤯 with the audacity of the visuals...gotta watch it again for the story ImageImageImageImage
#52: The Worst Person in the World(2021)
Most times we see stories where a hero rises from the ashes to stand up against his biggest enemies, vanquish them & ascend a peak
Sometimes we need stories that go "what hero? What bigger enemies than my own thoughts? Firstly...who am I?" Image
#53: Neil Gaiman on The Tim Ferriss Show(Podcast)
90 mins of bliss as one of the greatest authors talks to another great mind about the love for stories, discipline of writing, beauty of fountain pens, the bittersweet nature of friendship n much more♥️

open.spotify.com/episode/09Lth2… Image
#54: Wide Angle on Galatta Plus: @Dir_Lokesh with @baradwajrangan
What is the procedure to control hype after watching this?
Image
#55: Vikram
Has all the ingredients of a 'full meals': while most items are cooked to perfection, packed with flavour & spice, few dishes seem undercooked/overcooked at the same time.
The belly is full, but the heart longs for more.
10/10 for the effort of chef & his team though Image
#55: Panchayat | Season 2 | @PrimeVideoIN
Just like a scene from the show, Panchayat gives you the feeling of a chilled beer on a warm, sunny day under the cool shade of a big Banyan tree♥️ Image
#56: Barry @DisneyPlusHS
Started off with an intriguing first season, but the way the show escalates in the 2nd & 3rd...makes it one of the best shows running at the moment
Unmissable! Image
#57: Hustle @NetflixIndia
Adam Sandler is on a roll lately & his latest is another reminder of what a superb, effortless actor he really is
If you love underdog stories, you'll definitely enjoy this👌 Image
#58: Jayeshbhai Jordaar @PrimeVideoIN
Definitely deserves more love than it got during its theatrical release
Maybe arrived a bit too late, but still a pretty entertaining n relevant film Image
#59: Guilty Minds | S1
A smartly made drama series set in the world of lawyers and suits; yet another winner for @PrimeVideoIN
Each episode is a unique case with an overarching story going on in the background; entertaining without becoming over-dramatic👌 Image
#60: Tabbar @SonyLIV
If a film like #Drishyam was expanded in terms of its canvas & storytelling, giving each of the family members their own arcs and a role to play in its survival, this is what you'd get
One of the most engaging thriller shows I've seen recently🔥 Image
#61: Top Gun
Caught this because I wanted to watch the sequel and it's a cool movie n all, loved the leather jackets, aviator sunglasses and fighter jets but...what makes it so iconic?
Couldn't connect emotionally Image
#62: The Raid Redemption @PrimeVideoIN
No big stars.
No familiar faces.
No punch dialogues.
Hardly any slow motion.
Just wall-to-wall relentless action💥 THIS is how you make a single-location action film!
If a film like this features in the LCU... ImageImage
#63: The Man from Earth
Probably one of the most unique movies iver seen🙈 super low on budget, super high on concept
Don't read the plot or synopsis, just take out 1.5 hrs out n watch this...it'll blow you away🙏
Image
#64: #TopGunMaverick
Just like his character goes on a mission to save the world, Tom Cruise takes it upon himself to save big screen entertainment
What a pure, joyous experience...felt like a child all over again, rooting for his hero to win
Classic Cinema. Image
#65: Suzhal @PrimeVideoIN
Engaging while it lasted n this is a big leap for Tamil web series, but I wanted to like it more than i actually did, though
The backdrop of the thiruvizha had so much scope but ends up being just a backdrop Image
#66: Vilangu @ZEE5India
I know I'm quite late to the party but in a way, glad I took time to watch it after the buzz, taking time to let the story unfold instead of binging it in the first weekend n forget about it
IMO the best Tamil web series until now💥 Image
#67: Annamalai
Even 30 years later, still holds its own. Unparalleled underdog story, unlimited motivation🥲

GOAT🔥

#30YearsofAnnamalai Image
#68: Dhruv Sehgal | Dostcast
one of my favourite writers Dhruv (Little Things, 'I love Thane' of #ModernLoveMumbai ) talks to @VinamreKasanaa abt the art of storytelling, 'slow travel', Mumbai♥️ & much more
Vibe😌😌
Thanks to @FullofArsenal for the recco🙏
Image
#69: Anek @NetflixIndia
A film can be deeply political n complex but it has to be...a film.
The story has to move from point A to point B but not at the cost of forgetting the original point was ImageImage
#70: Samrat Prithviraj @PrimeVideoIN
I have never seen so many people, so much effort n so much money come together to put the audience to sleep Image
#71 #72
2 banger interviews that question what gets audience into theaters

@rparthiepan : give an idea they've never seen before

@KicchaSudeep : give a larger-than-life experience

@Vishal1Menon @baradwajrangan 👏👏 ImageImage
#73: Ante Sundaraniki @NetflixIndia
Taking an old wine of a genre like rom-com & injecting with such fresh elements: non-linear narrative that creates suspense, inventive camera angles/movements, retro callbacks, social commentary...huge respect for director Vivek Atreya♥️
Gold! Image
#74: The Dropout @DisneyPlusHS
I don't know whether to marvel at the brilliance of the show or cry at how brilliantly Elizabeth Holmes got the smartest/richest people in the world to invest in her dream/scam
The world is fucked, but the show is pretty damn good Image
#75: The Big Short @NetflixIndia
When I watched it in 2015, i didn't understand it and felt stupid.
I watched it last night n i still don't completely understand it, but just enough to be completely invested in it.
Adam McKay's a rare breed Image
#76: The Founder @NetflixIndia
Rewatched yesterday and what a strange movie: it manages to inspire so much and break your heart in equal measure Image
#77: Rocketry @PrimeVideoIN
The intention, commitment and potential is clearly visible...the core emotion is so strong...
Only if the writing & direction focused on that instead of going On a physics textbook route for most of the film🤌
Biopics are super-tough Image
#78: The Gray Man @NetflixIndia ImageImage
#79: My Life @NetflixIndia
With a few months left to live, a seemingly successful man works against time to fix the unresolved issues in his life
Just like the protagonist, this film will leave Netflix today(July 31)
Super heart-warming film, watch♥️ Image
#80: #Darlings @NetflixIndia
A truly Indian dark comedy done right👌big props for taking a subject material like this n injecting humour n drama so compellingly
Everytime Alia and Vijay Varma are in the frame it is so damn tense, you have no idea what's gonna happen
Win! Image
#81: Parallel Mothers @PrimeVideoIN
I don't know how Almodovar does it every single time: creating flawed yet strong female characters, driving drama and tension through their conversations and dynamics, repeating the magic with Penelope Cruz without being repetitive♥️ Image
#82: Never Rarely Sometimes Always @NetflixIndia
Another reminder of how fast women have to grow up in a world full of immature men refusing to do the same.
Difficult yet incredibly moving film of a subject that's more relevant today than ever before Image
#83: #LaalSinghChaddha
Aamir's acting choices take a bit of getting used to and come in the way of us getting too invested, but this is still a very likeable, immensely watchable film
I watch Forrest Gump all the time but this still felt fresh & truly Indian
Watch in theatres🙏 Image
#84: Gargi @SonyLIV
Didn't know it was possible to love Sai Pallavi even more...but here we go❤️
Even beyond the opening dedication, it's so evident how much @prgautham83 loves cinema. Every frame has a bit of Hitchcock, Coens, Wong Kar Wai & a lot of HIM that elevates the film Image
#85: Black Bird @AppleTVPlus
Stories about 'serial killers' are so widespread across fiction films/shows, non-fiction docuseries & podcasts & so much more
How does a creator manage to give something different then?
THIS is the answer. Sure to keep you hooked🔥 Image
#86: Malayankunju @PrimeVideoIN
Tough for someone like me who's already seen 127 hours to be invested in this Image
#87: The Bear
Never thought a show about food could give me anxiety
Easily one of the best shows of the year, with Episode 7 showing you why exactly Image
#88: Better Call Saul
What a heartbreakingly beautiful ending to such a fucking beautiful show. Plays against every trope that's expected of a crime drama but still shows redemption in the most poetic way possible
Feels like a phase of my life is over💔 Image
#89: Thirteen Lives @PrimeVideoIN
There is a world beyond the toxicity of Twitter & Social Media, and there is kindness and empathy in that world

True stories like these are proof of that♥️

The world's greatest rescue mission told with such simplicity & restraint. Must watch! Image
#90: Wide Angle with @anuragkashyap72
This is what I texted @baradwajrangan after watching it:

I stopped watching porn long back

But then i came across ur kashyap conversation

Image
#91: #Tiruchitrambalam
The story is simple, the setting is grounded, but the direction, casting & performances make this wholesome film soar♥️
This is a cakewalk for Dhanush, but Nithya Menen, man...every frame she's in gets filled with so much more life n charm 🧿 Image
#92: #Dobaaraa
An immensely engaging watch at the theaters
Maybe not Anurag's best/most memorable of his works but definitely his cleanest, most focused film
Guarantees solid entertainment for its runtime; watch it on a big screen 🙏 Image
#93: 777 Charlie
Updating this very late because I was busy crying at how beautiful this was Image
#94: Thallumaala @NetflixIndia
How i would've loved to be part of this crew: if the film looks THIS MUCH FUN, imagine how it would be making it!
PS: while most raved about the 'theater fight', i was absolutely on the edge of the seat throughout the final act at the wedding
GOLD! Image
#95: Brahmastra
After perhaps Om Shanti Om, this is absolute peak Bollywood masala.
There are negatives(dialogues, staging of conversation scenes) but theres just so much more to love and enjoy
We're capable of telling such big stories if we put in the effort, and it shows🔥 Image
#96: Natchathiram Nagargiradhu
Too many thoughts that can't be summarised with a character limit
Extremely conflicted on this one Image
#97: Nna Than Case Kodu @DisneyPlusHS
Someone pls tell me this film worked at the theaters. Will be heartbroken if it didn't, cause it's been so long since a flawless satire like this has come out🙏 Image
#98: Sita Ramam @PrimeVideoIN
Can understand why a lot of ppl got swept away(mostly cause of Dulquer-Mrunal chemistry which was 🔥) but personally, like @dostoyevesque put it, it was a bit too sweet to digest. Well-made, engaging n charming, sure, but that's abt it Image
#99: #VendhuThanindhathuKaadu
Shift+Delete that romance track & an extended epilogue, n this would've been so much more memorable.
Fantastic writing touches + direction + an in-form ARR + a pitch-perfect STR makes a really good watch, even if reminiscent of Vaastav, Satya Image
#100: Attention Please @NetflixIndia
I wish you didn't even have to read this tweet but seriously: don't read/watch anything about the film and just go watch with an absolute clean slate.
Come back & comment what you thought of it. Image
#101: Chup
In an industry that has temporarily forgotten 'originality', R Balki is a filmmaker who always tries to bring something unique & fresh
Chup lives up to the same promise which is worth a watch, & most definitely for one 'reviewer' who wears a blue shirt Image
#102: Cha Cha Real Smooth @AppleTVPlus
Just Dakota Johnson staring into the screen is worth the subscription cost, but there's lots more to ❤️: an effortless coming-of-age tale abt a charming manchild, surrounded by imperfect, likeable characters trying to make sense of the world Image
#103: #PonniyinSelvan #PS1
A fantastic journey with every character driving us in a different direction, keeping us hooked, constantly guessing
Could it have had some more highs, more 'mass' moments? Sure.
But the sheer epicness makes it all worth it. Hyped for part 2!🔥 Image
#104: Kantara
There's a difference between using mythology as 1) a cash-grab in the current climate & 2) weaving it into an undetachable part of a story.
Kantara is easily one of the best examples of the 2nd kind. An absolute beast of a film, with the climax going FULL BEAST🔥 Image
#105: Naane Varuven
Builds up like a house of cards in the 1st half, only to be blown down by a weak breeze in the 2nd
Fantastic child actors though Image
#106: #HouseoftheDragon Season 1
This is redemption with a vengeance. Didn't expect to get sucked back into the GoT universe but the world-building, character development & politics between them, n the choice to avoid riding on pure shock value..hooked!
N the last 15 mins🙊🙊🙊 Image
#107: Crashing @DisneyPlusHS
If you ♥️ standup comedy or coming-of-age stories or even just facing an obstacle while pursuing something you love...you HAVE TO watch this show.
Teaches you what it takes to follow your passion, n how u can never take it for granted
What a journey! Image
#108: The Offer @justvoot
If you love The Godfather(not the Ajith one) or cinema in general, you'll be mindblown watching the story of behind the greatest movie ever made...almost never got made.
Literally...gangsters wanted to ban this film...until they became a part of it. Image
#109: Five Days at Memorial
America is branded as a superpower & we assume it has state-of-the-art facilities, higher standard of living etc but in the face of disaster...u get how f*cked the country really is
Shows the shocking events at a hospital during Hurricane Katrina Image
#110: Impeachment: American Crime Story @DisneyPlusHS
If u were alive in the 90s uve probably heard of the Bill Clinton-Monica Lewinsky affair but GODDAMN the shit that actually went down is unbelievable
Pretty good miniseries if ur into scandal-driven stories Image
#111: Athena @NetflixIndia
A new benchmark for explosive filmmaking craft has been set. Every sequence makes your mind go 'how the fuck did they do this' n your heart to 'wtf is gonna happen i need a breather'
Absolute banger🔥 ImageImage
#112: Appan @SonyLIV
Went into this film knowing nothing about it. Came out scarred, grateful & also mesmerised by Malayalam Cinema

Seriously, more people need to watch & talk about this film🙏

An effort: Image
#113: 19(1)(a) @DisneyPlusHS
A very interesting plot that's trying to balance itself between being European and rooted at the same time. Loved how it began but took a bit too long to get to the point

Vijay Sethupathi is effortlessly charming though Image
#114: The Patient @DisneyPlusHS
I will watch ANYTHING with Steve Carrell in it, but was JUST. NOT. READY. FOR. THIS.
Once you start, very difficult to stop binging through the 20-min episodes Image
#115: Da 5 Bloods @NetflixIndia
If there's a filmmaker who punches u in the guts right from the opening credits, it's Spike Lee🔥
Like every other Spike Lee joint, it does so many things at once: buddy comedy, tense thriller, harrowing drama & ofcourse...a political statement✊ ImageImage
#116: Love Today
Finally got tickets to watch it on my fav screen: Devi
tbh NEVER seen such a response for a debutante actor
@pradeeponelife 's biggest strength: humor-driven visual storytelling, reminded me of another fav @edgarwright 💥
Spilt my drink at @ItsGurubaai entry😂 ImageImage
#117: Monica O My Darling @NetflixIndia
This is whats been missing frm Bollywood films for a while: FUN.
Im a sucker for cinematic universes n grey characters that keep shifting b/w them like a pulp novel n @Vasan_Bala does so well here, keeping us HOOKED n laughing throughout💥 Image
#118: Rorschach @DisneyPlusHS
A very differently told revenge story that's superbly made(and scored) that made me want to like it more than i actually did
Can't put my finger on it but wasn't too emotionally invested Image
#119: Gali Guleiyan @PrimeVideoIN
Manoj Bajpayee described this role as one of his toughest ones ever...and it shows
Loved this slow-burn journey within the walls of a city that tell a million stories, and the walls of a troubled man's mind Image
#120: Barbarian @DisneyPlusHS
The scariest thing about this movie is the stupidity of Americans to book an Airbnb in such a location without checking reviews Image
#121: Dhokha: Round D Corner @NetflixIndia
The most (unintentionally) hilarious & entertaining movie of the year 🔥🔥🔥 Image
#122: The Admiral: Roaring Currents @PrimeVideoIN
With a 1 hour-long naval battle sequence as the major chunk of its runtime, this story rises to become so much above just mindless action...reserving a much-deserved spot as the highest grossing film in South Korea ever👌👌👌 Image
#123: The Playlist @NetflixIndia
I love Stories behind the rise/fall of a company & I'll watch such stories even if they're average...but didn't know this unassuming Swedish miniseries abt @Spotify would be THIS good💥
How the Pov keeps shiftin in each episode is just 👌👌👌 Image
#124: Ulidavaru Kandanthe @sunnxt
Finally got to watch Kannada cinema's biggest tectonic shift & man...what a superbly crafted n structured film
Though the mind loved it more than the heart did, it must be watched & celebrated for its novel, layered treatment of a simple story👌 Image
#125: Last Film Show @NetflixIndia
The plot felt like it's gonna be the PERFECT film for me, only to be ruined by how hollow & ingenuine, it was
ofcourse there r so many logic mistakes but i can let them go if the emotion was strong but NO
PLUS: Cinema Paradiso already exists Image
#126: Gold
I guess one of the reasons why I liked it even a little bit, is because I WANTED TO Like it
Like ordering mutton biriyani and getting kuska, you're left searching for the pieces to relish on
Love you Alphonse but...i guess better luck next time

Image
#127: Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey
Glad to have finally caught it in a full house in Kochi
Still reeling from its impact
Damn! Image
#128: #AnActionHero
Did not expect this to be one of the most entertaining films of the year 🔥
Great action, genuinely funny n doesn't think twice abt trolling the media, the audience & Bollywood itself!
Definitely deserves more butts on seats...go watch! Image
#129: Qala @NetflixIndia
The feeling u get when u see a beautiful, intricate painting that doesn't move u as much?
Not unforgettable but gotta appreciate the world-building, production design, Tripti Dimri & the GORGEOUS soundtrack by @ItsAmitTrivedi
Sincere & engaging for sure Image
#130: Bullet Train twitter.com/i/web/status/1… Image
#131: The Banshees of Inisherin @DisneyPlusHS
A uniquely funny tragedy(& a sad comedy) abt a friendship gone sour, uncovering a very relatable yet less talked about theme: male loneliness

One of my fav films of 2022, n damn...how spectacularly shot! Image
#132: Ariyippu @NetflixIndia
It wants to an Iranian film in form but what's lacking is emotional engagement or any kind of impact
Engaging, sure. Introduced me to a new world, absolutely.
But nothing more worth remembering or to take home Image
#133: Doctor G
If i had to describe it in a single word: SINCERE
Probably a little too sincere for its own good Image
#134: The Swimmers @NetflixIndia
In a recent event, Mysskin asked a college crowd: "Why do you watch films?"
After variety of answers over 45 mins, he summarised it in a single word: HOPE.
And if you could summarise HOPE in a single film, it's this. Image
#135: Pada @PrimeVideoIN
Glad I caught it before the end of the year
Makes a powerful entry into my Malayalam top 10 of 2022💥 Image
#136 Kooman: Inhuman Image
#137: Fyre @NetflixIndia
Catching it late but what a shocking yet super-satisfying story to see rich Americans get fucked over?
Unbelievable Image
#138: #GlassOnionAKnivesOutMystery
A cinematic equivalent of a Domino's Pizza
Fun, familiar, does its job but also mediocre & forgettable...until you order it the next time

I could watch Daniel Craig as Blanc and Kate Hudson as anything for days tho Image
#139: The Last Castle @NetflixIndia
Within the first 15 mins, I started wishing that if Lokesh ever makes a movie with Thalaivar, it should be this. Set in a prison, it's like the massy version of Shawshank
Right up both of their alleys with PLENTY of room for mass moments Image
#141: Nope @PrimeVideoIN
I don't know wtf it all meant but God damn i regret not watching this on the big screen
SHOOK! Image

An ongoing thread of movies/TV shows/documentaries I've watched in 2021:
#1: The Minimalists: Less is Now on @NetflixIndia
In an age where we can buy any thing in the world with a few screentaps, why can't we buy happiness that lasts?
A short, superb documentary on the the rising 'minimalism movement'directed by one of my fav youtubers, @mattdavella Image
#2: #deathto2020 on @NetflixIndia
A hilarious mockumentary looking back at everything happened in 2020, the weirdest year in human history🤦‍♂️
Pakka fun & clever little film by the creators of #BlackMirror 🔥🔥🔥 Image

It's been a shitty year for the world but for cinema, it's actually been better than expected!

MY 15 FAVOURITE FILMS of 2020: A thread
#15: Nasir/Social Dilemma
2 films that really made a deep, lasting impact on me, but for different reasons. One film made me question where we're heading as a nation, and the other made me wonder where we're heading as a species
#14: Ala Vaikunthapurramuloo
If there was only some way to magically remove the foot-fetish portions, this film was genuine FUN. A simple story told with the typical Telugu 'epic' narrative, combined with an insane soundtrack that made India fall in love with @davidwarner31 again

To who ever is asking about the name change(again) of our YouTube channel from Fully back to Fully Filmy, a few points:
When we first changed the channel's name to Fully on Feb 9, 2018:

Positives:
1) tried a lot of different subjects
2) discovered animation as one of our strengths
3) we crossed 1 mil, 2 mil, 3 mil with our videos
4) subscriber base grew a lot
Negatives:
1) while experimenting a lot, we lost focus + direction
2) lost consistency because of the lack of direction
