First thing I see: the site uses tracking cookies.
Second thing I see: it collects email addresses & phone numbers.
Third thing I see: Advertising on its dashboard.
That isn't alternative social media.
It's the same old data surveillance rehashed.
Having a closer look. Here's their privacy policy. Which is basically an anti-privacy policy.
GETTR is registered in the United States & thus subject to US jurisdiction.
So, it's Parler 2.0.
After some lip service to claiming they only collect what you voluntarily give them (incl your SEARCHES!), scroll down a little bit further & find they actually fingerprint your browser, device & router info
(Panquake is engineered to avoid capturing of ANY of this information)
And yup here we go - it gets worse
"Third parties" - commonly known in the industry as 'marketing partners' which really means BIG DATA COMPANIES... making this virtually no different than giving data to Facebook and the like
Followed by... yup personalisation
Tailored content
So where else is your GETTR data going?
To advertisers
To anyone they decide to sell it to when they flog off the company (they expressly claim your data as their asset)
And here comes the rub..
They use Google captchas and Google analytics so the big G is getting to fingerprint your browser, device, connection information & likely qualifies as a 'marketing partner' too & therefore gets your PII as well
Oh, and they don't respect "Do Not Track"
In a really badly formatted table waaaaaaaaaaaay at the bottom of the privacy policy, you find the really great stuff.
Super reassuring.
Moving on to the UI, it turns out they've decided to use 1/3 of their interface real estate on...... news about themselves & related causes they support.
The default timeline view is 100% conservative topics + posts by their CEO, who it turns out is a Trump insider
Will conservative voices be allowed on Panquake?
Abso-freaking-lutely.
Will partisan rhetoric dominate our user interface?
Hell to the no.
No advertising means no advertising. That means not even advertising ourselves, or our CEO.
Panquake exists to serve users & users only
Social media is way overdue for an architectural revolution. Where the software is engineered not for the commercial benefit of its owners (or their 'marketing partners') but instead for the user
That's why Panquake determined from the outset that the user should be the customer
Panquake won't do anything to you that I highlighted in this thread, we're making sure of it.
Why? Cos privacy = human right
I'll let @seanodiggity weigh in to polish off this thread, as I'm sure he'll have plenty to add re the egregious privacy practices I mentioned (and more)

Last week, we hit our Phase 2 funding target of 167k and launched Phase 3, where we will raise an additional 500k to complete the service delivery of the product. More details about this later.
Incidentally, to celebrate Phase 3 I got some cool new graphic templates :P

In terms of general campaign progress, we're ecstatic to have the final goalposts in sight and will work to meet the final target as fast as possible.
In the meantime, we are progressing the blockchain build & performing the BETA delivery vetting for our first 5,000 users
This Twitter thread is going to raise half a million dollars
Panquake Phase 3 - Final Funding Round!
In Phase 1 & 2 you helped us establish a multi-national company & funded our BETA product build
NEXT: we'll fund hiring & training support staff & launching/marketing Panquake!
Each time a Phase 3 donation is made, I will announce it on this thread.
This thread will remain pinned to the top of my timeline until Phase 3 is complete, so that our many thousands of supporters can keep track of our progress!
Who would like to kick this off? :D
2021 was a hell of a year - at every turn, interests set against social media user freedom reared their ugly heads
Twitter tried to stop us. Didn't work
PayPal tried to stop us. Didn't work
DDOS networks tried to stop us. Didn't work
Everyone who is seeing the writing on the wall and screaming for Panquake even more urgently than ever before
So here is a few notes about what is happening with the project right now behind closed doors....
1/
The reason I am so quiet on Twitter is because we are busy accelerating the Panquake build to our maximum capacity. Our dev team (which spans 5 time zones) spends hours & hours every day implementing functionality, building out infrastructure, documenting & release planning
2/
This time last year I was tentatively reaching out to people I wanted to recruit onto the project (incl @seanodiggity) and now 12 months later, we have established operations in multiple countries & are looking at a functioning (albeit not yet dressed) Panquake user interface
