This one's a bit of nonsense:
1. The Guardian decides to do a 'Who's YOUR person of the year" thingy where they'll print some reader submissions, eg "My person of the year is Britney cos she's free now" or whatever.

2. After a couple of days they stop accepting replies because they have enough for the article.
3. Twitter decides that this was a *competition* with a winner based on user votes, despite it never saying this. They further decided that JK Rowling must have been winning the competition and that the Guardian therefore scrapped it.
The Guardian prints its article. Included are Greta, Officer Goodman, Marcus Rashford, Chris Whitty and yup, JK Rowling. Among others.

This doesn't stop the 'cancelled poll' story spreading widely in the right-wing media based on literally nothing except some stuff people made up on Twitter. 
I'm not blaming Jo for this one. Seems to be just be just normal internet bullshit.
This was the text on that Guardian page. I immediately read it as soliciting the written equivalent of vox pops. There's nothing here that says "poll" to me.
Some replies to this thread saying insisting it WAS a poll, or that I can't prove it wasn't a poll. Others claiming, also baselessly, that Rowling somehow orchestrated the row as self-promotion. Everyone is just very silly today.
