The A-29s unique combination of durability, situational awareness, combined with lethal PGM air to ground weapons, makes the A-29 the gold standard for light attack, combat and reconnaissance aircraft in the world. Its plethora of weapons have been wrecking havoc on BHT/ISWAP.
Weapons like the Hydra 70 on LAU-131/A rocket launcher. The Hydra-70 rocket system is a family of 2.75in unguided rockets derived from the Mk 4/Mk 40 folding-fin aerial rocket.
Conventional drop bombs with 250 pound warheads. There are limitations with these kind of ordnance. The spot where an unguided bomb hits the ground is a function of the direction and speed of the plane and the wind and atmospheric conditions while the bomb is in flight.
A bomb dropped half a second too late can miss its target by hundreds of feet. You can cause a great deal of collateral or civilian casualties if used in close proximity to civilian areas. A fact terrorist the world over know and exploit.
The stage was set for the acquisition of precision guided munitions like the GBU-12 Paveway Laser Guided Bomb. This weapon gave the NAF a single kill shot probability.
2021 marked the first extensive use of precision guided munitions in the history of Nigeria with the Paveway Laser Guided Bomb. However, "smart" bombs, unlike missiles, have no propulsion systems of their own.
They are propelled only by gravity and the momentum of the launching aircraft. A seeker head locks onto the target and the flight path is adjusted by varying control fins and canards on the bomb.
The laser guided bomb requires a laser designator pod carried by the aircaft or by troops on the ground. The soldier will focus a laser beam on the target, painting it continuously and reflecting back outward a cone of laser energy called the basket.
Once the bomb is released the bomb’s seeker head locks onto the laser illumination and homes on the target. The bomb flies in a zigzag course to the target as the fins made a corrective switch every few seconds to bring the laser reflection back to the center of the seeker head.
Using laser guided technology NAF pilots are now able to strike with extreme precision, limiting civilian casualties while still having a greater, more profound effect on the battlefield.
Now, most of the munitions dropped by the NAF are still regular iron bombs, but smart bombs like the Paveway LGBs have made an extraordinary impact against high value targets. You often hear of ISWAP commanders killed, what you dont hear is the kind of munition dropped.
With only 400 in stock and costing tens of thousands of dollars apiece, the available smart bombs are judiciously assigned to the most important targets, where they make a difference, even in small numbers and force thousands of confused insurgents to surrender.
They have multiplied the effectiveness of strike sorties and taken out targets that were previously too difficult.

Emmanual Macron has once again proposed working with Nigeria to fight insecurity in the Lake Chad basin and the entire stretch of the Sahel region. Such effontry after the Maskirovska!!
For those wondering what the Maskirovska is, let us revisit the period when dozens of
..Boko Haram fighters attacked a Chadian army base in Boma, killing 100 Chadian soldiers in an attack that spanned eight hours. Attempts to reinforce the base with hundreds of troops and rein in air support was supposedly thwarted by Boko Haram, who after 8 hours carted away
cache of weapons and escaped on speedboats.
It's hard to pick which is more incredulous, Boko Haram attacking a Chadian army base for 8 hours with Chadian and French forces powerless to stop it, or the fact that people actually believed this ..well timed maskirovska.
I have dedicated years of my life to countering and exposing malicious propaganda and disinformation. Certain interest groups, and even terrorists have become a strategic pioneer in the use of online propaganda and social media to deceive, mislead, incite
.and mobilize Nigerians to carry out acts of self sabotage. Countering such activities is the corner stone of everything i do online. Social media has become the battleground to manipulate the hearts and minds of people
When you take an in-depth look at the JF-17s radar, you realize how fiscally irresponsible it will be for the NAF to buy just 3 JF-17 fighters.
To fully maximize the capability of the fighter jet the NAF needs at least a Squadron level operational capability of the JF-17.
The JF-17 is equiped with the KLJ-7 radar. This radar can detect up to 40 air, ground and sea targets. It can track 10 targets and send two missiles simultaneously. It can detect a target with a radar cross section of 5 sqm at a range of 105km.
This radar is useful against enemy aircraft and of little relevance against Boko Haram/ISWAP.
Sure it has look down radar and can drop bombs...so can the Super Tucano or Alpha jet. Nigeria is not lacking in the air to ground department.
I’m thrilled to announce DNN is making a big leap into the future with a soon to be launched DefenseNigeria Podcast. The podcast will take an in depth look at subjects involving the Nigerian armed forces, defence intelligence, weapons system, geopolitics and everything inbetween
..as it affects Nigeria, and Africa at large through interviews with insiders, experts, military personnel and daily news updates....the works.
Its getting hyper toxic on Twitter with hatred and threats and saboteuring, its really hard to know who to trust these days.
With partisan hacks and special interest groups out there proliferating malicious narratives on an industrial scale, the Defense Nigeria Pro Nigeria movement should not be limited to one fragile social media platform where so many people want you dead. We need to up our game.
In August 2015 President Buhari said Nigeria's continual reliance on other countries for military equipment has become "unacceptable" and ordered the Defense Ministry to create a "modest military industrial complex for the local production of weapons.
Here are some of the best defence products that has come out of Nigeria since the 2015 Presidential Directive.
