Accidental overdose by skin exposure “is chemically and physically implausible,” said Dr. Ryan Marino, a medical toxicologist and addiction medicine specialist.
Fentanyl can be absorbed through the skin, but only under unique circumstances.
Patches are used therapeutically by medical professionals, which may have contributed to the belief that instantaneous absorption and overdose are possible.
Despite this, people who use fentanyl are facing serious legal repercussions — such as charges of assault or endangerment of officers — for supposedly causing these impossible overdoses.
And though there’s been recent accidental overdose myth-busting, law enforcement officials continue to go to great, very expensive lengths to avoid this “risk,” and people continue to face incarceration for supposedly causing these accidental overdoses.
In Sept. 2021, officials in Greene County, Tennessee, charged Tommy Starnes with two felony counts of reckless endangerment after a deputy and EMS worker both experienced “symptoms of an overdose” after treating him.
However, the first responders were originally called for an overdose. They were there to save Starnes’ life.
What we do know is that the US is in a very steep growth period for new cases. Omicron has disrupted businesses and frustrated those who are catching the variant — although vaccines are reducing serious illness and death.

Arbery was killed in February 2020 and though the unarmed man was gunned down in broad daylight, the men who admitted they had chased him in their trucks and killed him were not immediately arrested.
It wasn’t until video of the shooting became public, drawing questions about how local authorities handled the investigation, that the three men were charged with murder.
"This case has sent a clear message: Violent hate won’t go unanswered. There will be accountability," Amy Spitalnick, the executive director of Integrity First for America told BuzzFeed News.

As the fallout over Astroworld continues with dozens of lawsuits piling up, and many of them implicating Travis Scott, fans are divided over whether or not he should carry most of the blame. buzzfeednews.com/article/michae…
For Kylie, who has been a fan of Scott since 2017 and attended the festival, Scott’s statements on the deaths at Astroworld feel insincere. She has also been critical of the partnership between Scott and BetterHelp, as it will only cover a month of services for free.
And though the chaotic nature of Scott’s concerts have been well documented, most notably in his Netflix documentary Look Mom I Can Fly, one fan was “surprised” by the number of casualties and people hurt last week.
