In conclusion, Theranos was an extravagantly capitalized non-solution to a non-problem.

The purpose of Theranos was to attract capital, advertise the founder as a dazzling fiction, and sic lawyers & thugs on whistleblowers & journalists.
BUT! By contrast real American inventions (forget "innovations") are useful, and solve real problems, & are created by nameless inventors who need no glory.

They don't even need venture capital or thugs. Because...PEOPLE INSTANTLY BUY THEM BECAUSE THEY WORK.
And thus I show you to THREE miraculous inventions that are cheap & astonishing—and solve problems!

They don't even need covergirls & fortresses guarded by David Boies & Hells Angels!

They are: woodglue, the ultrasonic humidifier & eyelash growth serum.…
If you don't have the problems they solve (wood in want of an adhesive, dry air, scant eyelashes), you DON'T NEED TO BUY THEM! And ffs they don't need your investments or PR!
No "story," "team" or "influencers."
Just glue that sticks wood together so tight it can withstand o2 freaking tons of pressure!
Welcome to Franklin Adhesives & Polymers (est 1935) in Columbus OH.
It "polymerizes its own adhesives"!—now THAT is a slogan.
Oh also Franklin's site is a model of elegant informative graphic design, true to the Depression-era vision of visionaries Mildred Bonney and Langdon T. Williams, whose family still owns the business! What a unicorn Titebond is!

Krugman is right as usual. But I’ve based my 2022 equanimity on this:
Steady prosecution of coup participants.
Biden’s concentration on voting rights.
Astounding success of fossil fuels divestment.
Awareness that people always get apocalyptic in plague years.

Learning from the riveting Conspirituality podcast that the anti-woke crowd believes it’s uniquely awake — either via the Waking Up app or the Q Great Awakening. Woke, wake, awakened. Maybe everyone who is not actually asleep is awake?
Cc @derekberes please advise
Also I thought we weren’t getting enough sleep?

This is a garbled and possibly dangerous metaphor set

Has any senator ever sold out his state as thoroughly as Manchin has?

He and the Sacklers have decided to finish the job the coal companies started. Thinking of West Virginia today.

.⁦@HayleyPhelan⁩’s disturbing story of yet another psychopath guru is the latest entry in the conspirituality girl-boss fraud files. Image
I hope it helps a generation of white middle-class women enchanted by wellness & pyramid cults like Shambala, Bikram, Kundalini, & NXIVM to exit, regroup, & get real educations.
When this group because “disillusioned” with traditional religion, they evidently became re-illusioned — almost immediately.

“Reillusioned” might be a religious category in itself.

With that surprising phrase — “Our differences are precious and our similarities infinite” — ⁦⁦@DrBiden⁩ smuggles a promising new political hypothesis into stock holiday wishes.

I wonder who wrote this.…
Differences are rubies and similarities are grains of sand.
Our differences are expensive and our similarities cheap.
