Maybe I’m tweeting into the void but I’m in isolation after testing positive on Monday and I feel insane so we’re going to talk about #schools and #teachers and #VirtualLearning
At this point, talking about the harms of #virtuallearning is a dog-whistle for me. Not one person I know thinks it’s good. That’s neither here nor there.
This morning, MCPS announced that 90 bus routes were cancelled AFTER students had already gone to their bus stops. This is because of no #staffing
At the MCPS school where I work, there were 10 teachers with no substitutes out today (including my classes).
So what did they do?
My classes were put in the cafeteria with 1 admin.
This was sent to us on Monday in preparation for this week.
What does this mean? It means that my students are #VirtualLearning in a viral incubator. There is no synchronous instruction. I got emails all morning from my kids with questions.
Do people think teachers don’t know the harms of virtual learning?
You may have some kids in school and seen how it impacts them.
I have seen how it impacts all 150 of my students.
NOBODY wants that.
But what DO you want?
Because at this point, if there’s not a plan for #VirtualLearning then schools are just going to flat out close.
If you want teachers to go in with Covid, then just say that.
Don’t patronize us by saying you care about the harm to students.
