The Kazakhstan regime's answer to the EU's pathetic statement about a peaceful resolution. Body bags and inviting Putin in to help, as he did in Belarus.
Putin is happy to invade another neighbor, of course. To prop up another dictatorship and secure energy deals. Note it's not just neighbors, as he used this model in Syria and Venezuela to support murderous thugs.
An additional disgrace, Pashinyan, the only democratically elected leader in the CSTO, announcing Putin's invasion of Kazakhstan to rescue the dictatorship from its angry citizens.
Are Biden and EU leaders paying attention as a Soviets-into-Hungary style invasion takes shape? Or will they continue to blather about solving Putin’s military adventures diplomatically? Macron? Scholz? Putin supports dictatorships worldwide. Who defends the people?

Statement on Kazakhstan protests a classic example of the EU's feckless collusion with dictatorships. Calling now for "responsibility and restraint" as the oppressed citizens of a dictatorship rise up.
Nonviolence should always be the first way, and sometimes it is the only way. But brutal dictators in power for decades aren't often swayed by peaceful marchers waving ribbons.
Now calling for "all sides to show restraint," where were the EU statements & policies to help the people of Kazakhstan free themselves from repression that is anathema to supposed EU values? Dictatorship is violence. It is illegitimate.

Free world leaders giving dictators the status and attention they crave doesn't deescalate or avoid conflict, but the opposite. Apparently Biden also craves a status boost, but this is also the opposite.
For those who still don't understand, Putin stays in power by keeping the cash flowing & his oligarchs happy. To do this, he needs to be irreplaceable, the big boss. No better way than 1 on 1 talks with the US president.
With no legitimacy via real elections, dictators must rule by force, propaganda, and de facto legitimacy engendered by things like talks with foreign leaders. Denying them these status symbols has real power. It dents their aura of being essential.

Putin's press event today was very aggressive, a terrorist leader issuing demands with a gun at Europe's head. He wants direct talks with US which would be the betrayal of Ukraine & E Europe and the demise of NATO.
There can be no "negotiations" starting from Putin's absurd demands. Return Crimea and leave Donbas and then talk about "security concerns". Leave Georgia and Moldova.
Putin is waging war and seizing European territory by force. If Jake Sullivan wants to "negotiate" he should first read some history books about what happens after you reward a dictator's aggression with negotiations.

Putin and his regime have been issuing threats and ultimatums for weeks. He is cornered, not by NATO or the US, but by his own people. So he needs distractions, enemies, scapegoats, constant conflict.
I explained this dynamic when Putin went from courting the G-7 and playing democracy to invasions and threats. He was secure at home and didn't need friends anymore. He needed excuses for Russia's dismal situation after so many years of his rule.
Putin will keep attacking, threatening, and bluffing as long as he fears no risk of a defeat that could destabilize his rule in Russia, the only thing he cares about because it is the only guarantee of his money and his life.

Sullivan is pathetic; the US is "prepared for dialog with Russia" while Putin is prepared to expand his war. What dialog? About Ukraine? About Russia's laughable "security concerns"?
Putin says he will only talk to America, excluding not only Ukraine but NATO. The Western appeasers only talk about "avoiding war". Uh, guys, the war started in 2014 when Putin invaded. Further appeasement means further aggression.
Putin's regime is issuing security statements referring to "former Soviet republics" as if they are his special property and not independent nations fully capable of telling Russia and Putin's mafia to fuck off.

I am thrilled that as of this moment, my personal archive is available as NFTs on 1Kind.com. You can be part of my legacy by purchasing one of these exclusive digital collectibles. Browse the collection at 1kind.com.
I wanted to share dozens of personal items from my life and career, to open my archives. We have worked together from the start to create a new way of using NFTs to tell a story, one with real history behind it.
Items never before seen by the public include my personal notebooks and family photos. The cast includes the coaches that shaped my chess, my fresh start with a new career and family after chess, and, through it all, my greatest champion from the very beginning, my mother.
