gm, fun life update!

Super excited to start a new role today.

I’ll be joining @chapterone as head of experiments & research 🎉

Thrilled to be working with @jmj, @menemazarakis & the incredible team.

My job is to be the crazy scientist at Chapter One.

Here's the rundown 👇 Image
1/ There is an endless amount of research and building left to do in web3.

Web3 is not just a copy paste of web2 with “DAO” added at the end.
2/ There are patterns, data, and ideas still buried deep in the ecosystem.

It’s our job as a community to go looking for these gold mines.

Upcoming protocols have the potential to be 11x more impactful than even companies like Facebook and Uber.
3/ There’s going to be a whole new generation of tooling, infrastructure, and product in tech that you and me get to build!

It’ll be super important for firms and protocols to try new things and be as crypto native as possible.

4/ That’s why I’ve been brought onto the team to work on Chapter One’s product studio.

My job is to embrace the Edison mentality: “to deliver something great, you have to generate many ideas”

I’m going to be experimenting in the crypto world and ship as many cool POCs as I can.
5/ Think of me as an entrepreneur in residence.

My day can include anything from writing a Solidity contract to hosting a Twitter Space.

For me, 2022 is the year of launching MVPs. Image
6/ Ultimately, the goal is to create a positive and meaningful impact in the web3 world.

I strongly believe most web3 organizations will have an experiment job posting in the coming years.
7/ Yes, it’s important to be focused on delivering a core service.

But it’s equally as important to constantly try new things and see what sticks.

One example of this is @wearenewt
8/ The @AaveAave team is doing a fantastic job of embracing the idea of tinkering in this new web3 playground.

I’m looking forward to collaborating with brilliant people like @0xJim to bring the craziest ideas alive. Image
9/ As a whole, Chapter One’s goal is to build the ultimate web3 community.

Imagine meshing together a startup, fund, accelerator, and creator studio all together - that’s what Chapter One is.

10/ As @JasonMarder puts it,

“The spread of ideas depends on their ability to be understood. The adoption of technology depends on how easy it is to use.”

Our team strongly believes that product & design focus will be essential to onboarding the next wave of crypto users.
11/ Chapter One is looking to serve not as a VC or an accelerator.

Rather, our goal is to be the catalyst for hackers at the frontier of web3.

To us, thinking of product ideas, building out codebases, investing capital, and creating new content are all equally as important.
12/ Need some help writing code or designing your landing page? Let’s hop on a hangout and cook up a quick prototype.

Need some initial funds? No worries, we gotchu :)

Need some research on best NFT mints? We’ll dive into the data.
13/ Need some insight from interesting web3 builders? Brb, starting a Twitter Space.

Need some speakers for your university's crypto club? We’ll put you in touch with some awesome folks.

We don't have all the answers, but we're committed to build alongside with you.
14/ Working with Chapter One will be nothing short of Silicon Valley garage vibes. Image
15/ I’d like to briefly introduce the dream team I get to work with :) Image
16/ First up is @TheFundCFO!

Doug is a finance wizard 🧙‍♂️

He’s coming into web3 with a fresh, non-tech perspective.

I’m stoked to learn how to raise capital & manage risk from Doug.

Just take a look at my wallet activity, you’ll see I have a long way to go 😂
17/ Next is Chapter One’s in house Da Vinci.

@JasonMarder recently left his role at Stripe as a design lead to join C1.

From what I’ve observed so far, he’s one of those guys that can...think differently.
18/ You can see his unique personality come off in his design, writing, and even text messages.

On the other hand, I can barely color in the lines.

I’m excited to learn as much as I can about user empathy and beautiful UX from Jason.

19/ Next is Mr. ChapterOne. To put it simply, @menemazarakis is a beast at everything.

He’s one of the fastest learners I’ve met and embraces the web3 spirit more than anyone else I know.

It's gonna be a blast working side by side with him!
20/ Also super excited to get to know @acquAYEEE and Jamie as well!

Jamie has been with Chapter One since day 1️⃣

And Drew is 10 steps ahead of his time.

I hear there’s a fellow Longhorn joining soon as well🤘 @mtangarova2
21/ Last but not least, I cannot express how thrilled I am to be working with a tech legend.

@jmj is my early adopter and I’m so thankful that he's taken a bet on me.

Remember, not manager...coach!

22/ If you’re doing anything cool in web3 or just want to say hi, feel free to dm me anytime!

This next journey of my life is going to be absolutely crazy and I can’t wait to get started.

Let’s get to work 💪

2021 has been one hell of a year for me.

1) Embraced the nomad lifestyle & stayed in 7 cities

2) Quit my job in web2

3) Wrote 30+ threads on web3

4) Recently signed a new role in web3 (sharing soon 👀)

For my last thread of the year, I wanted to share my 5 favorite posts 👇
1/ First is my web3 P&P mega-thread.

To me, web3 is just like the iOS app store.

I picked 10 different products/protocols and did deep dives on why they're so cool!

2/ Next, I wanted to share a thread on 11 reasons why web3 is the future.

If you're trying to get into crypto but are still unsure as to why, then this thread is perfect for you!

gm! New pfp 👀

I believe @chain_runners is going to be the next blue chip NFT collection.

Runners = Punks + Artblocks + Nouns

The project is relatively new, but already gaining so much momentum.

Here's why 👇

1/ Early last week, @faraaznishtar got me hooked on the Runners.

I saw that the floor price was starting to 🚀 last night and decided to write this thread.

To understand the importance of Chain Runners, let's start at the beginning.

2/ In June 2017, Matt Hall and John Watkinson (Larva Labs team) released the CryptoPunks.

The punks drop initiated the craziness of the NFT world we know today.

In fact, the ERC-721 standard released in January 2018 was inspired by the success of the Punks.

It took me a while to understand why web3 is so important.

Now, I'm pretty much addicted.

Here are 11 reasons why I decided to go all in 👇

1/ Incentives

Web2:
1) Growth Stage: Platforms ❤️ Users
2) Post IPO: Platforms 💔 Users

Decentralized protocols give all network participants upside through tokens.

Protocols serve the community; platforms serve the shareholders.

Web3 aligns incentives.

(h/t @cdixon)
2/ Portability

- Web2 users don't own their data, they rent profile pages from platforms (hard for users to leave)

- Web3 keeps data & infrastructure separate which enables data portability

- Data Permanence & Immutability

Quick explaination 👇 Image
1/ Just like countries, blockchains have a purpose, structure, and rules.

Each blockchain (i.e. Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana) has its own advantages & disadvantages.

Some blockchains do certain tasks faster and cheaper than others.
2/ Blockchains can't communicate with each other and are siloed off.

For example, if I hold btc, I can't use it on a protocol that runs on the Ethereum blockchain.

We need a medium to move back and forth between chains (interoperability).
