1/6 Listening to #MorningJoe in the car, it was gratifying to hear @JoeNBC and @jheil finally connect the dots on the whole #GOPScam we've been screaming about for years.
It goes like this:
2/6 • The GOP represents billionaire families, a tiny sliver of the American electorate.
• To win elections, they leverage culture-war issues, conspiracy theories and straight-up racism to get working-class whites to vote for them.
3/6 Only, Joe's wrong that it's been over the last 20 years. They've been doing this since Nixon.
But he's right that #January6th is a perfect symbol of this grift. #January6th is a perfect symbol of this grift.
4/6 The billionaires who created the #insurrection, and for whom it benefitted, are "free to drink martinis and watch the sun rise" while their foot soldiers languish in federal prison.
He was also right to connect it to the televangelism grift of Jim & Tammy Faye Bakker...
5/6 It's the same with big business too: socialize the risk and privatize the profits.
In every case, the poor and middle class ends up holding the bag.
6/6 The democrats need to remember their working-class and rural roots. We need more like @TimRyan.
Read @janekleeb's book. Read Thomas Frank's "What's the Matter With Kansas."
