There's a long tradition in America of not negotiating with terrorist, kidnappers, hijackers, extortionists, etc., or those used to be our purported mores anyway.

Does anyone else remember it that way?
Well, republicans not only support the actions of domestic terrorists, but they have them within their ranks. They've hijacked governance through pure and total obstruction and sabotage. They've attempted to extort the public using the filibuster in an attempt to kill democracy.
We all know that Manchin has his own personal benefit and interests first in mind. He doesn't need to invoke the bogus notion of bipartisanship to hide behind just to block progress in order to achieve his personal agenda. The senate rules allow him to do that.
So, when he says that we must be "bipartisan" and we must negotiate with republicans, what's the difference between that and saying we must negotiate with and capitulate to terrorists?
Other than giving lip service to a long dead political process of compromise in which republicans have overtly sated they have no interest or intentions, what does he think we're supposed to believe he's trying to accomplish?

The more I think about it, the more I believe that while the SCOTUS conservatives are socially ignorant, they're not stupid. They aren't epidemiologists, but they DO understand things when they're explained.

That's why I believe were virtue signalling to their MAGA public.
All of the ridiculous talk they put out yesterday about #VaccineMandates only makes sense when you consider the audience for whom it was intended. After all, they've made previous decisions about mask mandates just within the past few months that were totally coherent and sane.
The logic behind the antimasking arguments regarding colleges and universities was much the same as those behind the antivax mandates now. The arguments favoring masking were based on epidemiological and public health factors. The only thing different was the political audience.

I would be remiss if I signed off tonight without acknowledging the lives of Lani Guinier and Sidney Poitier. They were both defenders of democracy and fierce civil rights warriors. They were both trailblazers who made the way for millions of others.
They set examples for us that can and should be followed for generations. Even today, so many people are still not aware that there was so much more to Mr. Poitier's life than acting. His courage, leadership and service were stellar.
And I am still heartbroken that, as one of the finest, most brilliant attorneys and legal scholars this country this nation has ever known, Ms. Guinier was denied the opportunity to serve as Attorney Genral because of rank partisan politics and racist animus.

A lot of people are praising Karl Rove for his statement about his party today. It's being called courageous and forthright. Yes, he does deserve some praise for it, but let's be as careful as we are as real about it: He is largely responsible for the current state of his party.
More to the point: the genesis of the Big Lie can be traced directly back to him.

Back in about 2004, when the republicans were feeling the oats of their empire and colonialist exploits in the midst of the so-called war on terror, Rove said this: Image
Rove was bragging about conservatism creating their own reality construed out of complete unreality for politics and power. It was the same creation of a web of unreality that led to the lies that precipitated the Iraq war in the first place.

This is pure BS.

McQonnell and the same republicans who put SCOTUS in place that all but eliminated voting rights, invented Citizens United, and endorsed all of the negative voter nullification changes at the state level are now willing to "negotiate?"
msn.com/en-us/news/pol…
They knew that changes were needed for years because THEY BROKE THE SYSTEM.

That the republicans hang out a fake white flag of surrender when they get cornered then they ambush the democrats by reneging - and the democrats bit on it every time - has really gotten old.
Here's the thing: "negotiated" partial voting rights are not voting rights at all. They are crumbs that the republicans are willing to concede and that the democrats are always willing to accept.

Some folks will call it dredging up old history and playing with old wounds, but some things need to be said aloud. Osama bin-Laden never committed any of the attacks al-Qaeda was behind. But he was the mouthpiece, planner and purported to be the leader of the spiritual movement.
Their goal was to bring down America and democracy.

With his express purpose being identical, Steve Bannon is bin-Laden. And, we are in the midst of an American-style Rightwing Jihad. I dare someone - anyone - to defy the laws of gravity here and tell me why I'm wrong.
That's exactly what he want's. But don't believe me. He's said so himself.

And, what is the difference between bin-Laden's video taped threat messages to America and Bannon's podcasts anyway? Why was one considered the ultimate threat to America, and the other just daily noise?

Republicans are still outright useless obstructionists, but people like Romney still think our heads screw on backward.

Why?

If a parent loses a job, and may or may not be eligible for unemployment, the sudden change in their status may necessitate them needed temporary aid.
That's one of the purposes of Temporary Aid to Needy Families program (TANF.) TANF came into existence in 1997 when the republicans on insisted, and democrats capitulated, and they killed welfare under the guise of "welfare reform."
In doing so, killing welfare didn't force people to work, and although stated as such, that was never really the goal. The real purpose was to eliminate a source of funds from the government to poor people, many of whom simply fell into permanent poverty crack and were forgotten.
