THREAD:
We need an open and frank discussion, we can't have our attentions diverted, the fact of the matter is that "over 50% hospitalizations" are NOT amongst the unvaccinated >

cbc.ca/news/politics/…
On the contrary the majority of hospitalizations are fully (by current definitions) vaccinated.

Yes it is true that the current data shows higher hospitalizations per 100k amongst the unvaccinated, that still means that if we reach 100% vaccination rates >
Our hospitals will not be much emptier, the majority of the population is vaccinated the majority of the hospitalizations are vaccinated, these won't magically go away.

Having said that, why is the focus all fours on something that was proven ineffective ?
The overwhelming of our hospitals is something that has plagued us for years, a quick Google search will reveal that, no rocket science when running at 100% capacity means it is a good day, so obviously that cannot be used as an excuse to force vaccinations >
But the question is so much more than just the mandatory vaccination part, if these people end up in the hospital with a novel virus what is it that is being done to cure them? To treat them earlier and thus more effectively? >
It is also no secret that the overwhelming majority of hospitalizations and deaths attributed to COVID had (several) comorbidities, has research been done to identify who it is that is at a greater risk? Has it been shared widely ? >
Are we communicating this effectively to these people? Are we telling them what signs and symptoms to watch for and what their first steps should be ? Are we making treatment options easily available to them? >
It is never a good idea to allocate 100% of resources and efforts to just one possible solution.
Just as an example, monoclonal antibodies has proven to be a very effective treatment option, and of (of not the only) choice successfully used against Omicron, how many doses of those did our government secure ? >
How easy or difficult is it for a person at risk who's starting to show symptoms to go and get? Can such a person access the treatment without being a burden on the hospitals? Without being exposed to HAIs and bedsores? This is only one example of what else can be done.
The chase after vaccination cannot be out only avenue, with several pharma executives already predicting we'd need another booster dose by fall of '22 we can't possibly rely on this rollout to be protected, we must have additional routes to go.
Prevention may be key but definitely not the only one on the ring, therapeutics deserve attention especially where prevention is quite literally impossible.
Even when looking at prevention efforts, the hyper focus on travelers leaves a lot to question, why negative testing travelers with no symptoms are deemed risk enough to have police show up at their doors while positive testing locals don't even need more than 5 days of isolation
As an example this is from #quebec, by focusing solely on vaccination we miss out on these 60+

Dear Canadian Parents,

You should know that by not vaccinating your children 0-19 you're exposing them to a disease that 0.0002089% of the pop. in that age group were killed from (17 out of 8,139,512).

Also, in that age group 0.0255052% were hospitalized "WITH" covid (2076)
2/4

Out of the 2076 kids ages 0-19 who were hospitalized 24 were admitted to the ICU, or 0.0002949% of the pop. in that age group (1.1560694% of total hospitalized in that age group ended up in hospital)
3/4

Out of all confirmed cases amongst 0-19 (320,041) 0.6486669% ended up in hospital (2076).

The sources of my data are:

dc-covid.site.ined.fr/en/data/canada
and www150.statcan.gc.ca/t1/tbl1/en/cv.…

This is besides of the fact that the vaccine doesn't stop transmission.
