Kevin Colbert. Mentor and friend. The thing I admire most about him is that you’d never know he was the top player personnel official for one of the most recognizable pro sports franchises. He never pulled the GM card. Like DMR, he was just one of us. #Steelers
Kevin’s door was always open. For anyone and everyone, any conversation you wanted to have. It wasn’t just lip service. Grateful to say we had many talks. Kevin called me, ‘Pino,’ and he would always bellow it out, ‘PEEEEENO!’ What came after was always a pleasant surprise.
Oftentimes it was a request to come to the scout’s room because they needed a good laugh. I get there, anticipating which impression he wants to hear. Todd Haley? John Mitchell? Danny Smith? Okay, hold on, gotta get some Dubble Bubble for this.
As #Steelers GM: 13 seasons with 10 or more wins; 10 Division Titles; 2 Super Bowls. 18 straight non-losing seasons. ONE LOSING SEASON. I know these last few seasons have been frustrating but take a breath and look back on a run that really only the Patriots can top.
IMO he deserves to be in the conversation for Canton when the time comes. But know this, Kevin is a Hall of Fame person, first and foremost.
