"Only tests purchased on or after Jan. 15 will be required to be reimbursed, the administration said." apnews.com/article/corona…
"Later this month, the federal government will launch a website to begin making 500 million at-home COVID-19 tests available via mail. The administration also is scaling up emergency rapid-testing sites in areas experiencing the greatest surges in cases."
Seems this whole plan is just a *smidge* too late to matter much.

Look, I know the FDA has more important things to do than deregulate French Dressing but 24 years still seems like a long time to say "ok we'll stop"
The French Dressing Scandal keeps getting bigger

I like to imagine the annoyed WH economist tasked with creating this chart, knowing just how silly it is. Pretty funny tbh
On the bright side, at least the tweet's drafter said "the economy" created the jobs, not Biden.

Silver linings!
Anyway, back to that economist. I imagine him/her sitting in some WH closet (nerds don't get the nice offices!) banging away on some complicated labor market thing when a low-level Press Sec flunky runs in & demands this dumb chart, presidential heads and all. LOL

Good @ishapiro look at SCOTUS/vax mandate: "most likely outcome is that the rule affecting private businesses will be blocked while that affecting healthcare providers receiving federal funds will be allowed to go into effect pending further litigation" cato.org/blog/osha-vax-…
Anecdotes aren't data, of course, but I've recently heard from a few small-ish businesses (100-200 workers) here that they still have a significant %age of unvaxxed staff & expect attrition if the mandate goes into effect. 🤷‍♂️
On the bright side, maybe that attrition will put them under 100 employees, at which time they're no longer subject to the mandate? But then what if the workers come back?

I need another cup of coffee.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record here, the govt order was a secondary issue; the primary one was FDA non-approval of the dozens of rapid tests made here & elsewhere that have been awaiting clearance for a year or so.

Rosie has really packed on the L-Bs this holiday season, and I don't have the heart to tell her. ImageImageImage
At this pt she looks like a toaster with a golf ball on top. But I don't want to fat shame her!
And every time I sit her down for some Real Talk about healthy living and body positivity, I end up giving her a treat - THUS CONTRIBUTING TO THE PROBLEM. What a mess. Image

Since rapid tests are back in the news (again), here's a reminder - by me, in early September - that this problem has been well-known for a long, long while now: "U.S. Regulators Are Failing the (Rapid) Test" cato.org/commentary/us-… Image
Probably the most frustrating part of the US rapid test debacle is that this product isn't complicated or novel like an mRNA vaccine. It's simple, and there are dozens of manufacturers around the world. The main bottleneck wasn't production; it was FDA approval.
