This is something I've been alleging for almost two years; Michigan Office of the Auditor General is now accusing the state of Michigan of undercounting hundreds or thousands of deaths in long term care facilities. freep.com/story/news/loc… via @freep
"While the auditor general's office declined to comment, Hertel's letter indicates the state anticipates it will say the department undercounted the number of long-term care residents who died because of COVID-19 by nearly 30%."
Lets note the auditor general is NONPARTISAN.
The complaints that the State of Michigan are making is almost EXACTLY the same excuses Andrew Cuomo used.
It is this simple: from the beginning, Michigan and Whitmer have been trying to hide these findings; Whitmer has blocked FOIA requests numerous times.
This is ultimately all about politics. A Republican would be facing huge press scrutiny. Another Democrat, like Cuomo, and strangely...not a peep.
This is an outrage.

So, I was ranting about @UPS and their CEO @CarolBTome yesterday, and some people wanted specifics. Well, here you go.
In October, I purchased two online products. I purchased them from TWO different sellers (Ebay and Etsy, fwiw). They were purchased on different days.
On Oct 26th, both packages were "delivered" to my address by UPS. The problem...they weren't delivered.
Furthermore, I can PROVE they were never delivered. I work at home, and was here at the time; additionally, my Ring video never showed anyone approaching the house.
Even funnier? One was "Delivered" several hours before the other...NEITHER was ever delivered, and no delivery man entered my property on that day.
So I filed a complaint. Etsy and Ebay ignored it, because UPS stated they delivered the package, and they aren't responsible.
Let me tell you a little story: Here in Ohio, access to mAB has been narrowing. Most of the big hospital providers stopped using it, because the argument was it doesn't work with Omicron (even though lot of Delta cases remained).
My wife had a patient whose mother was unvaccinated (😡) with lot of comorbidities, got sick. What was she to do? Her oxygen was dropping, etc.
My wife had to fight to get her into one of the mAB clinics that was still providing access. She did, the patient recovered quickly.
Hospital systems are over burdened, hyper-regulatory monsters some times. They do a lot of good, but one thing they do NOT do well is adapt to fast changing situations.
Florida is doing the right thing...get access out the fastest way possible.
These are among the highest vaccinated states in America.
Transmission is not being slowed ANYWHERE.
Hospitalizations and deaths are muted because of vaccines though. That is a great thing. But even hospitalizations are high, just because of the huge number of people.
And there is almost no evidence that places with vax or mask mandates are controlling transmission either...no matter what SCOTUS says.
Simply put:
1. VACCINES SAVE LIVES. 2. We have utterly failed in controlling transmission. 3. This wave is different than the others.
This disparity is GROWING as more inner city (read: MINORITY) districts go virtual in this phase of the pandemic than suburban districts.
This is not because of money, or greed, or whatever...this is because of POOR CHOICES.
It will, on average, take FIVE SCHOOL YEARS for minority students to make up this deficit, and that is assuming they have the educational opportunities to even attempt to catch up...which is unlikely.
