I am not sure most people realize just how far into the red the Brownback experiment pushed Kansas, and how far we have rebounded under Gov. Kelly's leadership.
We went from one of the worst-positioned states in the entire country to near the middle of the pack, with fiscal forecasts now showing a bright future instead of more doom & gloom. #ksleg
She also ended the practice of using KDOT as a bank, and using various other fiscal tricks that Brownback used to keep things from looking even worse but that would have been fiscal time bombs over the long term.
Even more remarkable, she did it w/one hand tied behind her back in terms of #ksleg refusing to expand Medicaid (which would have been a fiscal windfall, esp. b/c her budget already accounted for all of the state's costs) & slashing investment in higher education funding.
Not to mention the incompetent #ksleg failed to legalize sports betting & cannabis, both of which would have brought in tens of millions of dollars to boost the budget.
"WHAT THE ACTUAL F&CK WHY IS THIS NOT A HUGE STORY IN THE KS SENATE RACE!?!?"
A thread.
The headline would be:
"Kansas Taxpayers Bailed Out Roger Marshall's Hospital in Secret Deal!"
This is actually worse than the time he tried to run over his neighbor.
Welcome to the year 2009!
Great Bend physicians, including obstetrician Dr. Roger Marshall, create a physician-owned, FOR-PROFIT hospital in the city of 16,000, which is already served by the 99-bed regional medical center that grew out of one founded by nuns, actually.
Within a very short time, Marshall's for-profit hospital drives the non-profit one out of business by cherry-picking the most profitable cases.
They can do this easily b/c Great Bend is small enough that local doctors will often work or consult at both facilities.
