After speaking with the principal Mr. Battaglia at King George Junior Public School I am dismayed to see TDSB has not changed operational guidelines around SNACK TIME. Eating is the most dangerous time of the day, lunch presents a
lot of concerns, but SNACK can be moved OUTDOORS EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY. A guideline that insists children remain seated in class and supervised by a teacher is not BASED ON SOUND SCIENCE. The teacher can supervise but this will NOT STOP UNMASKED CHILDREN FROM DIRECTLY SHARING
AIR. That's 2 points in the day where RISK CAN BE ELIMINATED by moving outdoors. Parents can pack appropriate snacks, just like when WE WERE KIDS, teachers can SUPERVISE, but NO MORE SNACK INDOORS AND SHARING AIR.
Lunch routines are a PROBLEM. Parents who are working from
home should be ENCOURAGED HIGHLY to pick up children and BRING HOME for lunch to ALLEVIATE the STRAIN for those WHO CANNOT, THAT'S WHAT EQUITY LOOKS LIKE. As soon as warmer weather prevails ALL LUNCH MUST MOVE OUTDOORS. Go OUTSIDE let classrooms air out before starting lunch,
add EXTRA VENTILATION, ALL WINDOWS AND DOORS OPEN too.
Stating for the RECORD restarting school on MONDAY WILL BE AN UNMITIGATED DISASTER, the wave needs to pass before even considering going back. You will not be able to shore up this sinking ship with retired principals,
teacher candidates and volunteers. Nothing has been done properly and Omicron is a Beast. All students and staff need N95 masks, the 3 ply solution is a SLAP in the FACE to EVERY CHILD, they WILL NOT PREVENT FINE AEROSOLS FROM SEEPING INSIDE AND BEING INHALED. 1 HEPA unit in
every class tells me NOTHING about indoor AIR QUALITY, it's like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, you need MONITORS too. Teachers can plan accordingly, when air quality dips you take the entire class outside, OUTDOOR EDUCATION is NOT A CONCEPT it is a RISK MANAGEMENT STRATEGY
ALL COMMON AREAS MUST BE CONSIDERED TOO, LIBRARIES, GYMS, OFFICE, STAFF ROOM, CUSTODIAN ROOM, BATHROOM, HALLWAYS, EVERY SINGLE LAST SPACE IN THE SCHOOL SINCE AIR MOVES AROUND.
ROLL ALL THE RULES BACK - EVERY CASE COUNTS, PROPER TESTING, CONTACT TRACING, NOTIFICATION AND OUTBREAK
MANAGEMENT
EVERY PARENT HAS A RIGHT TO KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING INSIDE OUR CLASSROOM AND SCHOOL. THAT IS THE BASIS OF INFORMED CONSENT.
WAITING FOR 30% OF EACH SCHOOL, EACH LEARNING COMMUNITY, TO BE INFECTED IS BEYOND THE PALE AND ABSOLUTELY NOT EMPOWERING
YOU ARE ASKING PARENTS TO START THE 2ND HALF OF THE YEAR WITH LESS SAFETY AND TRANSPARENCY IN THE FACE OF GREATER DANGER AS OMICRON SPREADS EXPONENTIALY ACROSS THE PROVINCE, AS HOSPITALS PREPARE FOR COLLAPSE. THERE SIMPLY ARE NOT ENOUGH PAEDIATRIC BEDS TO ACCOMODATE
ANY SIGNIFICANT SURGE.
I DO NOT FEEL LIKE THIS IS A PARTNERSHIP ANYMORE, THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNMENT, PUBLIC HEALTH, SCHOOL BOARD HAVE SPENT 2 YEARS PASSING THE BUCK AND REFUSING TO IMPLEMENT PROPER AIRBORN IPAC INSIDE OUR SCHOOLS. FROM SEPTEMBR TILL DECEMBER 10 000 CONFIRMED
CASES, 10 000 CHILDREN WENT TO SCHOOL AND BROUGHT COVID HOME TO THEIR FAMILIES AND MADE THEM SICK TOO. THIS IS A COMPLETE FAILURE AND NEVER ONCE HAS ANYONE UTTERED A SINGLE WORD ABOUT THE IMPLICATIONS OF TESTING POSITIVE. COVID IS NOT MILD, COVID IS NOT A COLD OR THE FLU,
COVID IS A DANGEROUS NEUROINVASIVE VIRUS CAPABLE OF IRREPERABLE HARM. ALL PARENTS NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS REALLY AT STAKE WHEN THEY SEND THE KIDS TO SCHOOL, PARENTS MUST BE TOLD ABOUT LONG HAUL COVID. THE OVERWHELMING SILENCE ON THIS ISSUE SIGNALS A LOT TO PARENTS AND ADVOCATES,
ITS LIKE ANOTHER BIG BAD SECRET THAT NOBODY TALKS ABOUT, BECAUSE IT CAN NOT BE NEATLY SQUARED AWAY WITH THE ROSY BACK TO SCHOOL NARRATIVE.
EDUCATION IS A RIGHT NOT A PRIVILEGE. EVERY CHILD IN ONTARIO HAS A RIGHT TO ATTEND A PUBLIC SCHOOL THAT WILL NOT MAKE THEM SICK.
COVID IS AIRBORNE FULL STOP, RAISE THE BAR INSIDE SCHOOLS TO MEET THIS FACT.
2 YEARS OUR CHILDREN HAVE PAID WITH THEIR LIVES, AS GROWNUPS WE NEED TO STOP PLAYING GAMES AND STEP UP TO PRESERVE AND PROTECT THEIR INALIEANABLE RIGHTS.
THIS IS THE BEST OUR SCHOOL CAN DO
THIS IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO OK
I REFUSE TO SEND MY CHILD
Good morning KGJPS parents and caregivers,
We look forward to welcoming students back to in-person learning on Monday January 17th. Last evening, parents received a system message from
the TDSB. Please take time to review the changes in TPH and TDSB COVID-related operational procedures in order to best support a smooth transition for your child(ren) and family. I have added a few local reminders and clarifications below.
It is critical that all parents print or pick-up a copy of the new TDSB HEALTH PASS (updated January 10th) and complete/return it daily to determine each child’s access to school. This is now a three-page document. The last page is infographic which provides supporting
TDSB LETTER TO PARENTS
Good Evening Parents/Guardians and Students,
The Government of Ontario confirmed yesterday that, as scheduled, students will return to in-person learning on Monday, January 17. While we continue to await some additional details on some items, we wanted to
provide as much information as possible to help ensure a safer return to in-person learning next week.
COVID-19 Vaccinations: We continue to work with Toronto Public Health to support the rollout of vaccines for children aged 5 and older to support families who want their child
to receive the vaccine and ensure strong protection against COVID-19. Book a vaccine appointment now.
Daily Screening: Staying home when you are sick is one of the most important things we can do to slow the spread of COVID-19. Toronto Public Health has strengthened its
REPLY FROM TRUSTEE
Hello Marie
Thank you for sharing your concerns and opinions.
Many of the items you have requested are unlikely to be addressed before school starts on Monday.
At this time, I have not heard if there will be any change to how snacks or lunches are
administered, though I can ask at the meeting on Tuesday. You do have the option to take your child home for lunch or make alternative arrangements. Lunch supervision is a decision the Board has taken over the years. No funding is provided for this from the province.
