THIS IS THE BEST OUR SCHOOL CAN DO
THIS IS NOT EVEN CLOSE TO OK
I REFUSE TO SEND MY CHILD
Good morning KGJPS parents and caregivers,
We look forward to welcoming students back to in-person learning on Monday January 17th. Last evening, parents received a system message from
the TDSB. Please take time to review the changes in TPH and TDSB COVID-related operational procedures in order to best support a smooth transition for your child(ren) and family. I have added a few local reminders and clarifications below.
It is critical that all parents print or pick-up a copy of the new TDSB HEALTH PASS (updated January 10th) and complete/return it daily to determine each child’s access to school. This is now a three-page document. The last page is infographic which provides supporting
information that families may want to post at home and refer to as part of their decision-making process. The first two pages are meant to be copied on to a single sheet of paper (back and front) and then attached to each student’s backpack so that the staff member on duty can
quickly check it on the way into school each morning. If parents are unable to print the pass, they can pick one up from the envelope hanging beside the front door of the school.
N95 masks have arrived for school staff and we understand that additional masks for students will
be arriving over the next few weeks. In the meantime, parents are encouraged to ensure their child brings to school a few 3-ply, well-fitted masks. We know that masks which hang loosely in front of the face are not effective to prevent Omicron transmission. One mask element
that is helpful (and common in higher quality masks) is wire in the nose section so that the mask doesn’t leave gaps beside the nose. This is also extremely helpful for individuals wearing glasses who often deal with fogging issues. We will be reviewing proper mask wearing, as
well as social distancing and hand hygiene with students when we return to school next week.
Each of our regular classrooms has a HEPA filter. They arrived last spring and operate continually during the school day. In addition, our school will be continuing our past practice
of having at least two windows partially opened, as much as possible, throughout the school day. When we return on Monday, one additional step we will be taking is scheduling any eating times just before or after outdoor time so that students can eat in their classroom, wearing
their outdoor clothing, with the windows of the classroom more fully open. As usual, students are encouraged to dress in layers so that they can adjust their clothing for own their level of comfort.
In addition, parents are reminded that we are changing some of our morning
gathering spaces to better utilize our backyard and allow additional distancing between our cohorts. All classes are reminded to gather at the location of their class sign when they return on Monday.
Finally, parents who have borrowed Chromebooks to support their child's remote
learning are reminded to please return the device to my office window today before 2:00pm or to the front door of the school between 8:00-9:00 on Monday morning.
We will continue to communicate additional information and updates as we receive them. Please reach out if you have
specific questions and I will respond as soon as I am able throughout the day.

TDSB LETTER TO PARENTS
Good Evening Parents/Guardians and Students,
The Government of Ontario confirmed yesterday that, as scheduled, students will return to in-person learning on Monday, January 17. While we continue to await some additional details on some items, we wanted to
provide as much information as possible to help ensure a safer return to in-person learning next week.
COVID-19 Vaccinations: We continue to work with Toronto Public Health to support the rollout of vaccines for children aged 5 and older to support families who want their child
to receive the vaccine and ensure strong protection against COVID-19. Book a vaccine appointment now.
Daily Screening: Staying home when you are sick is one of the most important things we can do to slow the spread of COVID-19. Toronto Public Health has strengthened its
REPLY FROM TRUSTEE
Hello Marie
Thank you for sharing your concerns and opinions.
Many of the items you have requested are unlikely to be addressed before school starts on Monday.
At this time, I have not heard if there will be any change to how snacks or lunches are
administered, though I can ask at the meeting on Tuesday. You do have the option to take your child home for lunch or make alternative arrangements. Lunch supervision is a decision the Board has taken over the years. No funding is provided for this from the province.
After speaking with the principal Mr. Battaglia at King George Junior Public School I am dismayed to see TDSB has not changed operational guidelines around SNACK TIME. Eating is the most dangerous time of the day, lunch presents a
lot of concerns, but SNACK can be moved OUTDOORS EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY. A guideline that insists children remain seated in class and supervised by a teacher is not BASED ON SOUND SCIENCE. The teacher can supervise but this will NOT STOP UNMASKED CHILDREN FROM DIRECTLY SHARING
AIR. That's 2 points in the day where RISK CAN BE ELIMINATED by moving outdoors. Parents can pack appropriate snacks, just like when WE WERE KIDS, teachers can SUPERVISE, but NO MORE SNACK INDOORS AND SHARING AIR.
Lunch routines are a PROBLEM. Parents who are working from
