1/ Blockstream 2021: #TowardsHyperbitcoinization

2021 was a breakthrough year for #Blockstream and the #Bitcoin ecosystem. In the spirit of the new year, we wanted to reflect on some of our ambitious projects.

2/ January: We first announced the #BlockstreamJade hardware wallet (now fully compatible with @SpecterWallet and @BitcoinCoreorg nodes). 💎🌊

3/ February: #BlockstreamSatellite began broadcasting the Bitcoin Core source code worldwide. 📡🛰️🖥️

4/ March: The #BlockstreamMiningNote launches on @stokr_io and sells out within minutes. 📜⛏️

5/ April: The #BlockstreamBaseStation is released featuring an all-in-one integrated antenna that allows users to run multiple #Bitcoin nodes without internet access or any additional hardware. 📡🛰️

6/ Also in May: Blockstream acquires @TuurDemeester’s Adamant Capital and becomes the foundation of #BlockstreamFinance. 🏦

7/ May continued: We partnered with Square (now @blocks) to build an open-source fully solar-powered #Bitcoin mining facility. ☀️

8/ July: #Greenlight, an on-demand #LightningNetwork node service launches. 🟢⚡️

9/ August was a 💪 month for us, with three major announcements, including the launch of #BlockstreamEnergy. 💡

10/ August: The acquisition of Spondoolies + plans to design and build the #BlockstreamHornet #Bitcoin mining ASIC. 🐝

11/ August: Officially reaching unicorn status at a $3.2B valuation after raising $210 million as part of our Series B. 🦄🇨🇦

12/ September: Partnering with @Macquarie to explore carbon-neutral alternatives to #Bitcoin mining. 🌱

13/ October: Privacy-focused, community-led #Bitcoin scaling with Minimint. 🔏

14/ November: El Salvador and @Liquid_BTC make history with the #BitcoinBond. 🇸🇻📜🌋

1/ #LAYER2ROUNDUP: Last month, Lightning implementations #clightning and #LND rolled out major updates, and @Liquid_BTC took centerstage at @AdoptingBTC for the #BitcoinBond announcement.

Combined #L2 capacity also reached a new high of 6,661 BTC (~$377M).
2/ We begin at the @TABConf in Atlanta with a #LightningNetwork panel - @alexbosworth, @gkrizek, @niftynei, and @TheBlueMatt - who discussed off-chain scaling, privacy on Lightning, and liquidity ads.

3/ #Liquidityads are a spec proposal that allows Lightning nodes to source inbound capital via the gossip protocol.

Together with @Square, we're building an open-source fully solar-powered #Bitcoin mining facility at one of our US #BlockstreamMining locations to demonstrate how #BTC mining and renewables can drive the clean energy transition. ☀️⛏️ blockstream.com/2021/06/05/en-…
.@Square intends to invest $5M in the facility, with @Blockstream providing infrastructure and expertise to build and manage the project. The facility will be a proof-of-concept for a 100% renewable energy #Bitcoin mine at scale.
While we know that many mining operations throughout the world, including ours, already rely on renewables (as it is the most cost-effective power available), we hope that the open & transparent nature of this project will become a model that other businesses can learn from.
