From a mate: "Hello! I was on a Border meeting earlier with the cabinet office. They were not wanting the truth, quite insistent that reports of queues, at either side of the channel were a fabrication by the media and social media.
In other words the queues that are potentially there are normal for Ro-Ro traffic.
Talk about propaganda. You seriously couldn’t make this stuff up. Mind you when our own PM lies through his teeth is it any surprise that other government departments are going to do the same.
Interesting that an ex colleague still HMRC questioned a few of us about posts on FB where we’d said about queues. They only want good news. I deal with a few hauliers and ff’s day to day and they are telling a different story than the rhetoric the Government want us to believe.
"The above is just to do with GVMS, the IPAFFS fiasco is a different kettle of fish altogether"

Basically they are struggling to balance flow over control. They need to "control" but cannot rule out greater priority "flow"..
Smugglers continue to take your (very good) chances
"I know some of the ex Customs people. Good people. Interesting when C&E merged to become HMRC we were seen as the poor relation. When Brexit came along Customs became sexy. So many ex IR people jumped on the bandwagon.
My team was a specialist export unit
..& when we tried to advise on Brexit we were told we were the "wrong grade". This despite having vast experience within Customs but also working closely with Frt Fwders, FPO’s & exporters"
I left to work in the private sector as
we simply did not give them enough "positive news"

On UK Waterways...
Funny none of this was an issue until Brexit?
Up until when SM/CU continental supplies of Ferrous Sulphate were not an issue !!
(I wonder if UKG will try to re-classify UK shellfish waters to salvage a small piece of the now wholly fucked sales into EU) 🤪
I never knew this below (I was been sarcastic above) ...incredible ..

Have been asked to outline the "differences" for 2022.
Tweet 1/ Will now need to complete an expensive (couple of hundred quid) customs carnet listing all equipment items no matter how small & prepare to pay duties on the promotional CDs & other material
Tweet 2/ The pork pies & other animal ingredients produce will now be confiscated & muddy van could be refused entry to EU. Gigs is Brussels & Cologne will need separate work permits & will now be the end of their 2 cabotage max tour.
Tweet 3/ The new guitar will now be subject to import duty when crossing back to UK. As will be the replacement van door. Ill drummer flying home with his (un) lucky drumsticks will fuck up their carnet

In short..I wish more would realise
UK Gov on 1/1/21 wholly stopped Free Movement of Brits (personally & their business/products & produce) in EU/EEA & in NI
are *still* allowing some Free Movement of EU/EEA (their business/produce/hauliers through unlimited cabotage) in GB
This one here too seems to have been forgotten..
“That [Brexit] deal has been the worst of both worlds as it has increased competition in our domestic markets while cutting us off from Europe – that notion of ‘taking back control’ went out the window,” Mr Green said.
“We are not against competition, but what we have here is not competition, it is an uneven playing field – if you’re a UK company, you’re screwed.”…

I have copied @JVSwallow words and pasted in the thread below...
If you’ve been following social media channels you’ll see transport operators across Europe & UK seething about delays at borders as the new GVMS system becomes live. With no time to have meaningful trials in 2021 the first anyone could properly use the system came on 1st January
From the get-go we experienced our own delays as a truck that loaded in 2021 (between Xmas and new Year) had an entry that didn’t compute with a system only expecting jobs from 2022.
Numerous calls to HMRC went from being ignored to simply being unable to help.

I mean...seriously!! I am staggered. I have pondered so many ways to respond to this but I find myself lost for words.…
This was...not some natural disaster...but *choice*...
I wonder who they will be handing MBEs to for (not quite) "ensuring post-Brexit food supply to GB"…
