Covid restrictions had a knock on benefit in significantly reducing 🏥 admissions of 👦 with regard to other childhood illness + a corresponding reduction in deaths.

Especially marked re flu, bronchiolitis, meningitis, mumps and measles.

Interesting pneumonia deaths increased
I would be curious about explanations about pneumonia deaths increasing.

Is there any chance Covid played a part in that?

Concerns grow that scale of ‘partygate’ is now too great for Sue Gray’s inquiry | Boris Johnson | The Guardian

It should also include an Inquiry (with Inquiry Act powers) into the PM’s rôle and into security and police responses, or absence of them…
Jonathan Powell said his experience of Downing St was that it had been extremely difficult to take in any food or drink without exhaustive checks by the police.
He said: “I am amazed they could send someone out and come back with a suitcase full of booze. Imagine putting that through the scanner.”

I am too. Stunned. It could contain a bomb, a grenade or a load of coke (as Cummings has already pointed out was perfectly possible).

Novak Djokovic to be deported from Australia after court upholds visa cancellation | Financial Times

The Government did not rely on the details in vaccination rules and exemptions in its arguments.

The State argued that the tennis champion’s prominent public status and vaccination status could make him an icon for those opposed to Covid-19 control policies, whether he liked it or not.
The government’s lawyers raised Djokovic’s admission that he had attended an interview with French magazine L’Equipe last month after testing positive for Covid-19 as an example of his apparent disregard of public safety.

“Taking responsibility” in Johnson’s book seems to be a slippery business
He knew they were occurring
He went to some & knew they were parties
He appeared to dismiss concerns raised by others

He set the tone & culture

None of that is admitted
That isn’t taking responsibility Image
@BorisJohnson and @OliverDowden ‘s version of taking responsibility seems nominal and untruthful AND WILL NOT WASH.
“I didn’t know there were parties in breach of the law and guidance, but I am PM but as the poor victim I will take nominal responsibility whilst sacking and discipline everyone else”

Thin gruel and unbelievable.…

Is Omicron Reinfection Possible? Yes say experts including Omicron + Omicron

@Tuliodna⁩ ⁦@tomtom_m

Are data being collected systematically on reinfections (including in under 90 days) by Omicron on people previously infected with Omicron?…
I was slightly startled by this suggestion given how recently the Omicron wave seems to have started even in Botswana & South Africa (Nov 2021) especially as sero studies suggested decent immunity against Omicron by Omicron infection (esp if also vaxxed). Image
This would suggest possible reinfection within 3 months. But no link to study, data or reports.

In the UKHSA collect data on reinfections but only counts it as such if new infection occurs >90 days from prior infection. (I’m unclear if that will change).

Downing Street Staff Feel Dejected By Johnson’s Party Defence

Got to say were I a CS observing Johnson’s cowardly response and efforts to deflect I’d go out of my way to sink him in it revealing the numerous words and deeds of his demonstrating collusion…
If Sue Gray throws the junior (or even senior personnel) under the bus whilst even appearing to provide a shield for Johnson, why would not they throw the lot of them including Johnson under a bus in return?

If he set the tone and condoned it why should he be protected?
I’m not suggesting that any should be excused responsibility for their actions.

But the permissions start at the top.

A good leader would make it plain what was unacceptable sharply.

But when he joins in and does it too (inc in their own home) that IS the message.

There should be a very very special punishment for Prime Ministers who presided over the culture who does this. Incapable of taking responsibility. He thinks it is kicking everyone else. Except his own sorry arse.

He doesn’t see it.

But I’m guessing most people do.

Dear God.

Just kick him out. Every day is a day that says the Tory Party colludes with this sorry sack of a man.
“The blueprint includes a drive to work out which heads should roll following the publication of senior official Sue Gray’s findings, as well as highlighting the prime minister’s achievements, according to sources. Officials have also started using the codename”
