I think we are getting closer to a collective realization that Trump merely declared in advance he would be the winner and any result to the contrary would be false.
Then a wide network hatched elaborate schemes based on that premise.
Basically, when Trump declared that any negative result would be fraudulent, he activated his entire network of flying monkeys to try to corrupt their parts of the process.
Whether that was state electors, attorneys general, his staff and cronies, conservative media, etc…
Trump signaled that any loss should be wiped out by everything from undermining credibility to wholly cheating.
And then his flying monkeys went off and made myriad attempts ranging from large-scale conspiracies (multistate conspiracies) to local interference.
I haven’t talked about Trump’s narcissism in a long time because he hasn’t been relevant.
However, now that we’re looking back…
In the lead-up to 1/6, his worshipful little flock would absolutely want to plead him.
And Trump would get narcissistic fuel from them even trying to corrupt the election.
He would practically REQUIRE IT to survive for two reasons:
1) It would dull the shame of losing if others didn’t believe he did.
2) It would affirm his power and specialness.
So, every time someone ran to him with some scheme to undo the election results, Trump would rubber stamp it because his primitive narcissistic personality disordered brain LOVED it.
And he didn’t care if those people broke the law or got caught or went to jail.
In a way, Trump is the Mr. Magoo of Mussolini’s.
He is a fucking idiot. He is a legitimately stupid human being. However, his primitive little lizard brain is good at manipulating people and turning them into worshipful little servants.
Trump is incapable of the long game. His brain is literally incapable of multi-step strategies that require any degree of postponement of his narcissistic impulses.
He didn’t hatch these long, involved schemes. He fomented an environment of complete corruption and clapped.
His involvement throughout puts him in the thick of it but that dumdum couldn’t hatch a clever plot if you gave him a map, all of the world’s crayons, and a copy of Idiot’s Guide to Hatching Clever Plots.
He wound up all the toy soldiers and then sent them off.
And like all narcissists, as his involvement becomes more clear, he will throw each and every one of them under the bus.
The thing is… per the above, Trump’s narcissism would make him love EVERY idea someone pitched to undo the election.
And he’d encourage them all.
So, while we know about the multistate electors and Oath Keepers, this was not a top-down conspiracy. It wasn’t hierarchical.
It was more like a loose confederacy of independent networks all launching their own efforts.
It’s like a Marvel movie where all the bad guys get out.
They’re all doing bad shit at the same time. They aren’t working in concert.
That is among my concerns with Garland’s bottom-up approach.
Thoroughly investigating a single conspiracy or small number of them misses a wide array of fairly easily found corruption.
For every major initiative to overturn the election that we learn about, there are many, many more we didn’t from large-scale to grassroots.
That is what a narcissist like Trump actually wants, needs, and foments.
An army all fighting for him - even if they lose.

Missing some Tweet in this thread? You can try to
force a refresh
- people initially speculated someone could only get COVID once
- Trump, et al, downplayed COVID and talked people out of getting vaxed
- so, now, dopes fully believe they can just get it, get over it, and have conquered Mt. COVID.
1/
In reality, we now know:
They will keep getting it again and again over time.
Each case has the potential to be deadly. Each has the potential to do permanent damage to lungs and other organs.
That damage can accumulate over time. (eg lung damage from smoking)
2/
So, the staunch anti-vaxers have now backed themselves into a place where they are nearly certain of getting COVID; are highly likely to get it chronically; and are increasingly likely to be seriously debilitated or killed by it over time.
Your monthly reminder that the media enjoys lying about inflation.
Prices rose .6% in December.
Prices rose 7% over a year.
Nothing “surged 7% in December.”
Since I’m not in the mood to have this same tedious discussion, one more time:
My son was 4’ 10” a year ago. He is 5’ 5” now. His height didn’t soar 7 inches in December. It didn’t even soar 7 inches in December “from a year prior”.
He grew less than an inch in December.
That isn’t a very exciting headline though.
“Local teen grows under one inch in December” isn’t all that attention-getting.
“Teen skyrockets 7 inches in December over prior year” sounds a lot more dramatic.
Hot on the heels of me sharing something from Emily Scott Robinson about country music’s refusal to do better, here is another musician you should know.
Per my post about Robinson, I vet my musical recommendations for character.
I saw @joyoladokun open for Jason Isbell this fall. My entire crew were instant fans. She was fantastic.
Find her on streaming platforms. See her live.
And hats off to @JasonIsbell. He showcases diverse, amazing talent on his tours.

Country/Americana are at a crossroads. The culture will either evolve toward new relevance or devolve into the backwards, hickish stereotype that has held it back for decades.
The industry must choose: does it want to be no bigger than a soundtrack for small-minded bigotry?
