#BlueMonday was invented by PR firm Porter Novelli in 2006 to help their client Sky Travel flog holidays on our January salaries. They shopped it around before a part-time tutor at the Centre for Lifelong Learning, attached to Cardiff University, put his name to it.

The same person put their name to a daft equation that says the happiest day of the year is in June. That one was for Walls ice cream.
Newspapers love this crap because it's easy copy-and-paste filler. But it's just marketing.

Evidence suggests other times of year are worse for suicides and for depression diagnoses, so there's really nothing in it at all.
