Each year only limited number of floats from States are selected. Defence Ministry appoints committee of people from field of arts etc to finalize the list. 6-7 rounds of shortlisting and discussions are held. Floats can be rejected for any number of reasons, theme, visual appeal
non conformity to guidelines, etc.. Tamil Nadu has had its float in the R Day parade in 6 of the last 8 years, far more than many other States. Often regional representations also have to be kept in mind. To say that someone felt VOC, Velu Nachiyar, Bharathiar were insignificant
in the freedom struggle and that was the reason Tamil Nadu float was rejected is simply absurd. Where did this info emerge from? Did the committee note on the file saying as much? Did MOD say this? How did politicians and Tamil media come to this conclusion? TN float cd even
have not been selected because some other State unrepresented in recent years may have had a more attractive visual appeal. Right now We DON'T KNOW. Yet the news has spread that TN float has been rejected ( not, not selected) as if all floats are accepted automatically otherwise
CM has written a letter to PM, like Mamata Banerjee did because Bengal float not selected. Kerala says insult to Narayana Guru because their State float not selected. MOD must come out with a detailed statement clarifying the issue. But the Modi Govt has been caught napping
The damage is already done. They are insulting our leaders is the message that has gone out. Whether there is any truth in that or not is not relevant. The propaganda machine has done its job. Once more the "insult to our pride" theme has scored big time.
