To protect voting rights now, organize in the states.
The battle for the ballot—shifting tides, historic breakthroughs and heartbreaking setbacks—has never been a "one vote in the Senate" situation. You, the non-senator reading this right now, have a critical role. We need all hands on deck.

This vote failed.

Time for Plan B.
Want to think nationally? Act locally—and strategically. Look for organizations in states that will be critical to winning the presidency, the Senate, the House. States like Wisconsin—and MI PA GA AZ NC NV NH. Donate. Volunteer. Recruit others to help.

Especially—state parties.
State parties exist for the short term AND the long term. @WisDems and our fellow state parties organize not just for the highest-profile statewide races—but also for local races that wind up running elections. Clerks. Judges. Mayors. City councils.

This weekend, in Wisconsin, volunteers all over our state will be calling voters to remind them to sign up for absentee ballots NOW—before our spring local elections. You can join us! Pick a phone bank and up here to volunteer:

mobilize.us/wisdems
We're hiring organizers *right now.* These folks will mobilize and train volunteers who will do the hard work of connecting with voters and helping them navigate GOP-written voting laws. Help us hire even more of them by donating to the @WisDems here: wisdems.org/planb
As a proud Wisconsinite, I'm naturally obsessed with Wisconsin. But guess what—there's a state party in every state!

This link lists them all. Find yours, sign up, and find out what upcoming battle you can help win:

State parties register voters. We recruit poll workers. We build organizing teams that elect Dems up & downballot—including in races that nobody notices but which matter enormously. You want to save democracy now? Build mighty Democratic state parties that organize year-round.
City councils and county boards set budgets for election administration. When the GOP takes them over, they can shred those budgets—remove precincts, cut the number of voting machines, all sorts of mischief. If people who believe in democracy make those decisions, voters benefit.
It was painful to watch that Senate roll call vote. But don't let it dispirit you. Use it as fuel. Use it to power your work to rebuild our democracy from the ground up. Your country needs you now.
Run for office. Plug your address into @runforsomething's tool and find every office you can run for.

Find someone running for office whom you believe in, and go to the mat to help them win.

Let's do this.

BREAKING: RON JOHNSON JUST ANNOUNCED HE’S RUNNING FOR RE-ELECTION. He’s the worst senator up in ‘22—AND the most vulnerable. We can defeat him. Chip in any amount and let’s end Ron Johson’s political career for good. secure.actblue.com/donate/ronjohn…
Ron Johnson is, infamously, @TheWorstSenator. (If you question that distinction, click through to that account.) He burst into a new level of national prominence & loathing after 1/6, when he fed the insurrection—then denied it was an insurrection at all.
And we can’t forget how Johnson scammed every American by giving massive tax breaks to his biggest donors and himself—while, by the way, paying virtually nothing in state income taxes in 2017, and opposing tax breaks for the middle class.

Ron Johnson has spent years in the Senate looking out for himself at the expense of Wisconsinites and failing to do the job he was elected to do, and it’s time to face the consequences.

Official statement from me/@WisDems, with receipts.

My quote in NYT: “He’s an active menace to American democracy, a threat to public health and an economic saboteur of the middle class. His sole redeeming quality in public life is that in 2022, he’s going to inspire Democrats to organize and turn out.”

The insurrectionists attacked America on 1/6 by storming the Capitol. The most critical front in defending America in 2022 may just be Wisconsin.

Quick thread.
Republican radical Rebecca Kleefisch, running for WI governor this year, refuses to comment on whether she'd sign laws allowing the legislature to overturn presidential election results.

She aims to achieve the insurrectionists' goals, by other means.

Senator Ron Johnson, up this November, helped fuel the 1/6 attacks on America by pushing Big Lie rhetoric—and then immediately downplayed the attack and began pushing conspiracy theories about it.

IT’S THE FINAL DAY OF 2021. We’re closing in on our goal of 200 new recurring monthly donors by midnight TONIGHT. Why do we need support? Because we’re fighting for democracy on five fronts. Click to chip in, and read on for the final two in our countdown: secure.actblue.com/donate/eo21?re…
We’ve talked about Robin Vos and the shamtacular Michael Gableman investigation. We’ve talked about Mike Gallagher, Derrick Van Orden, and GOP members of Congress. We’ve talked about (yikes) Ron Johnson. Now it’s time for #2: Wisconsin’s Supreme Court and Partisan Gerrymandering. Image
Wisconsin’s Supreme Court is officially nonpartisan. The reality, though, is that it’s a 4-3 conservative-majority body that is, at this very moment, working to lock in Republican control of Wisconsin’s state legislature for the next decade.

My fellow Tweeple! You can exhale. It’s here: the #3 threat to democracy in Wisconsin…

[SWOOSHING SOUND, CRESCENDO]

U.S. Senator Ronald H. Johnson!

That’s right. @TheWorstSenator. He’s a menace to the American experiment. Image
Ron Johnson is, as America now knows and loathes, a general-purpose disinformation machine—pushing everything from lethal anti-vax misconceptions and wildly untrue Jan 6 conspiracy theories.
nytimes.com/2021/03/21/us/…
The thing that makes him a clear and present threat to democracy, though, isn’t just the lies he pushes—it’s the actions he urges people to take on the basis of those lies. Such as his vocal opposition to certifying Biden’s Electoral College votes.

Hello and happy 29th! It’s time, people of Twitter, for
[DRUM ROLL BEGINS]

… the #4 threat to democracy in Wisconsin:
[SNARES ESCALATE]

The five WI Republicans in Congress, starting with Mike Gallagher, fueling the destruction of our Republic!
Republicans are gunning to take over the House next year. They don’t have to win many seats to do it. The ghastly thing is that we can see, based on what they’ve done this last year, how they’d use that power if they got it.
Trump is on a glide path to winning the Republican nomination in 2024. You might think that Congressional Republicans who vocally denounced the violence on January 6, like Mike Gallagher, would stand ready to prevent Trump from doing even worse damage. Nope!
