To hold Perrottet/Morrison to account we must:
1) Compare where we are with where wise countries (NZ, Sing, Korea) are today.
2) Compare what #letitrip has done vs where we'd be with sensible public health measures.

Perrottet's spin. He:
-Compares where we are against scenarios published recently by his govt. They're a distraction.
-Compares where we are today with the pain of lockdowns. The alternative to #letitrip was caution, not locking down. Don't buy it.

"Don't look at the cases - look at the hospitalisations!"
to
"Not hospitalisations, look at the ICU admissions!"
to
"Sure, ICU is high, but look at deaths!"

"Yes, deaths are high, but look at the health of some of the dead!"

Australia until recently was celebrated as one of the countries that treated Covid with caution. Our high double dose vaccination rates were promising and a roadmap was built that didn't anticipate a new variant undoing some of our great work...

Omicron changed our context. Instead of adapting their approaches, we got "Stare it Down" & "Stand Tall".
Morrison & Perrottet talk like tragic deaths are mere turbulence on a flight to paradise. But our destination is most likely more pandemic...

#letitrip has been a fool's errand that's cost us dearly. Investing in policy & programs informed by public health experts is still the best possible investment our govts can make.
P2 masks, RATs, ventilation programs, public ed & communication...

We must not let Perrottet or Morrison tell us this #letitrip disaster is as good as it gets.
Remember:
1) Many countries have strong public health programs that keep people safe.
2) We deserve governments that value health & aim to keep us well.
