My third guess was gibberish that got accepted as a word and makes me mad that I didn't puzzle it out more cause I think I could have gotten it in 3.

I think the main reason why Wordle is so popular is that it fulfills the Dungeon Master's contract perfectly. In a game of D&D the DM is supposed to give the players a tough challenge that they will prevail over. Killing the characters sucks, but letting win with ease also sucks.
Having the Bard convince the Orc Horde not to invade while the Rogue pulls off a thrilling caper to find the secret info to find out who poisoned the King that leads to a hard fought battle that requires the party to use every trinket, potion, and spell they have in order to win.
That's a fun campaign. Wordle offers something like that on a smaller level every day. Each day we get six swings of the sword to try to slay our tiny five lettered dragon.
I'd like to imagine this is Shirley's reaction when her first guess gets the dreaded 5 gray.
