⏰ .@POTUS pledged to the world our #NDC of cutting 50-52% of 2005 emission levels by 2030. Despite promises from the administration to be transparent, we STILL have no idea how the administration plans to meet this ambitious goal.
When it comes to the Biden administration’s climate policy, there are lot of cooks in the kitchen—which means when @SenCapito asks for answers, it’s easy to for @EPA and @WhiteHouse to point the finger at each other and give Congress the bureaucratic runaround.
It’s even easier when @POTUS has appointed two climate czars who aren’t subject to congressional oversight. So who’s in charge of this administration’s climate policy? And what data was used and what assumptions were made when determining our country’s climate goal, the #NDC?
Climate czar @ginamccarthy46 has made it clear who she thinks is running the show. As former EPA Administrator under President Obama, she is the architect of the illegal Clean Power Plan and the leader of the War on Coal.
Meanwhile, Senate-confirmed @EPAMichaelRegan stressed transparency and cooperation throughout his confirmation process. @EPA still has not given @SenCapito the #NDC analysis, even after he committed – on the record – to make it available.
Also in the mix is private jet enthusiast, @ClimateEnvoy, who doesn’t even pretend to support coal communities. Did the #NDC analysis assume coal plants will be gone by 2030? American families and businesses deserve to know.
.@WhiteHouse has yet to nominate anyone to lead @EPAair—the primary office for greenhouse gas emissions. Why go through the trouble of a confirmation hearing & subject a nominee to scrutiny when @ginamccarthy46 can call the shots to @JosephGoffman w/o accountability to Congress?
In September, @SenCapito, @JimInhofe, @cathymcmorris, and @RepMcKinley wrote to @POTUS about how his admin has “dodged our continued requests during the past months…We have yet to be provided with any data or any analysis used or generated to inform the #NDC target.”
In November, @SenCapito wrote an op-ed detailing why @POTUS needed to defend his climate goals to the American people and Congress before jet setting to #COP26 to brag about America’s #NDC. thehill.com/blogs/congress…
Why are they hiding the ball? Either bc the math doesn’t work, or bc making it work means killing jobs and raising prices even further during the highest inflation in more than 20 years. Either way, the American people deserve to see what @WhiteHouse has promised on their behalf.
