Are we in the last generation of game consoles? Is local compute dead?

Many used to say that downloadable games would never dominate, and many currently say that streaming will never, either.

But then again, many used to say that leeches cured cancer.
I for one love local compute. But I am a dinosaur. I like to play games even when there’s (gasp) spotty internet.
(Nota Bene: if you try to bring blockchain into this, I reserve the right to mock you mercilessly)
One other thought that concerns me: I love old games. I have an absurd collection of old games. As our cloud-only market grows, we may be inadvertently destroying our own history. It’s a lot easier to preserve video and audio than running code, as we all know. \rant -off

My approximately spherical protobaguettes are expanding at 2.07±0.11 cm/h which to an observer yeast cell in the center looks like 1.035±0.05cm/h representing a redshift of 9.59x10^(-15) … if she could see the surface. One needed calculation is c inside bread dough.
Yes I used calipers to take these data and yes the error is calculated.
One Interesting Thought is that our yeast cosmodoughlogist would notice non-uniform expansion because of the local gravitational field, and lots of other noise due to varying dough density and nutrients, temperature variation, and cerera. Also…

If I am serious, that presentation was an insight into the limits of the imagination and creativity of the management of the company. Just because you hit the jackpot doesn’t mean you have the talent to do whatever you think of, or even that those ideas you can think of are good.
It honestly, and this is just me, looked like the normal, slightly-out-of-touch-rich-people-thinking-they-invented-everything routine. There was nothing interesting in what they showed, and most of the ideas were stale already decades ago.
I made a game with a meta-verse interface, and worked on an early cyberpunk game, both in the 90s. Both would not be considered useful interfaces. Second Life is a masterclass in what works and fails in these spaces and none of that learning seemed to be reflected either.

Look, it’s my friend and board member Forest Baskett! (Signatures in Wolfram’s original Mathematica book from launch day)
The Apple employee who signed this was Larry Tesler, a legend: google.com/amp/s/www.cnet…
John Gage is the “network is the computer” @John__Gage, still rocking.
