I'm eternally shocked every time I remember that Windows 11 doesn't even fix HDR, so we're just in a timeline where PCs don't get HDR this decade. Which means HDR support period will lag, because that's what we dev on.

How are Microsoft / nVidia / ATI / Intel this behind? HDR is well liked, and has been available so long that it comes default on TVs now.

This is what's so maddening. Apple has literally had PERFECT support of HDR for half a decade. HALF A DECADE.

I really don't mean to be precious about it, and I personally don't care that much about it. I don't even have an HDR TV, mine is "a very big cheap LCD from the tech recycler place that was cheap but good". It does, however, impact my WORK. I can't reasonably add HDR to my games.

Hearing from multiple people that Windows 11 DOES have the Xbox Auto HDR in it now.
Apparently, it not working is more to do with bugs, and that might be what they're addressing this month.
So less "it isn't there" and more "it's there but buggy". Thank GOD.

I'm digging more into HDR and apparently it's just mess even if you can do it. Optimizing your game for HDR means SDR looks dim, other way means HDR go weird-ass neon especially if you're an artist (like me) who just janks lighting settings around for fun. ea.com/frostbite/news…
Seems display manufacturers invented another feature waaaaay before games could really handle it well, and that went about as well as it has every prior time they've done that. Just here, the "bad" results at least look sort of cool, so it stayed. Like 4:3 stretch display modes.
And to everyone saying "but lots of games support HDR on PC, why Horizon looks great to me and-"
